Job summary

Saeed Ahmad Lootah Charity Foundation seeks an experienced Librarian to manage the school library and foster a culture of reading in Arabic and English. You will support curriculum delivery, information literacy, and student research skills across all phases.

You will lead reading initiatives, organize literacy events, and ensure UAE cultural and MOE guidelines are met while maintaining an engaging, safe learning hub for all students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a school library.
• Working knowledge of library management systems and cataloguing standards.
• Fluency in Arabic and English.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operation of the library, including opening hours, class visits, borrowing and returns with the library management system.
• Ensure resources are age-appropriate and compliant with UAE cultural, religious and content regulations.
• Lead whole-school reading initiatives with Arabic and English departments.
• Organise book fairs, reading clubs, competitions, author visits and other literacy events.
• Collaborate with heads of departments to select and acquire MOE curriculum resources.
• Teach information literacy, research skills and ethical use of sources.
• Maintain inventory, stock checks and manage lost or damaged items.
• Track library usage and report to school leadership.
• Keep the library safe, tidy, accessible to all students including students of determination.
• Participate in school events, CPD sessions and safeguarding compliance.

Job Purpose

To manage the school library as a welcoming well-organized learning hub that promotes a culture of reading in Arabic and English supports curriculum delivery across all phases and develops students research and information literacy skills

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the library including opening hours, class visits, borrowing and returns catalogue, classify and maintain print and digital resources using the school s library management system.
• Ensure all library resources are age-appropriate and comply with UAE cultural, religious and content regulations.
• Lead whole-school reading initiatives including National Reading Month and the Arab Reading Challenge in coordination with the Arabic and English departments.
• Organise book fairs, reading clubs, competitions, author visits and other literacy events.
• Work with heads of department to select and acquire resources that support the MOE curriculum.
• Teach students information literacy, research skills and the responsible ethical use of sources.
• Maintain an accurate inventory, carry out regular stock checks and manage lost or damaged items.
• Track and report library usage, borrowing data and reading participation to school leadership.
• Keep the library safe, tidy, attractive and accessible to all students including students of determination.
• Participate in school events, CPD sessions and other school-wide activities.
• Ensure compliance with KHDA and MOE requirements and the school's safeguarding policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, or a Bachelor's degree with a recognised library qualification.
• Minimum 2 years' experience working in a school library, preferably within an MOE curriculum school.
• Working knowledge of library management systems and cataloguing standards.
• Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken and written).
