Learning Support Teacher / Assitant
JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Inclusion Teacher at Greenwood International School is responsible for supporting and promoting inclusive education practices to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with special needs or disabilities. The role involves collaborating with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that ensures the academic and social success of all students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborative Planning:
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan and implement inclusive instructional strategies that meet the individual needs of students.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and provide input on student accommodations and modifications.
- Differentiated Instruction:
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to provide appropriate support for students with diverse learning needs
- Implement evidence-based instructional strategies to address various learning styles and abilities.
- Student Support and Intervention:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with special needs in inclusive settings.
- Monitor student progress, assess learning outcomes, and adjust interventions as needed.
- Behavior Management:
- Develop and implement behavior management plans to support students with behavioral challenges and promote a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with school counselors and behavior specialists to address student behavior effectively.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current on best practices in inclusive education, special education laws, and assistive technologies.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills in supporting diverse learners.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Inclusive Education, or a related field.
- Certification in Special Education or relevant teaching certification.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs in inclusive settings.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and inclusive education practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. 6. Ability to differentiate instruction, assess student needs, and provide targeted support.
- Empathy, patience, and a commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in education.
- Problem-solving skills and adaptability to address the individual needs of students effectively.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and resources to support student learning.
- Understanding of behavior management strategies and interventions to support positive student behavior.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a relevant degree with a recognised postgraduate qualification in Special Education.
- At least two years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in an inclusive school, supporting students with learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, and other additional learning needs.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), including setting measurable goals and monitoring progress.
- Ability to conduct educational observations and informal assessments to identify students' strengths, needs, and appropriate support.
- Strong skills in differentiated instruction, targeted literacy and numeracy interventions, and adapting learning materials and assessments.
- Experience delivering pull-out and push-in support and collaborating with subject teachers to support students in mainstream classrooms.
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support and strategies to develop students' communication, independence, and social-emotional skills.
- Strong English communication, report-writing, organisational, and digital skills.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in a UAE school and familiarity with local inclusion expectations.
- Experience supporting students across different grade levels and guiding Learning Support Assistants.
- Additional training in structured literacy, autism support, or behaviour interventions.
- Arabic proficiency would be an advantage
