Job summary

Emirates Electrical & Instrumentation Company LLC seeks a Lead Process Design Engineer to act as the Technical Authority for IA/PA system upgrades on offshore platforms. You will ensure compliance with ADNOC Offshore Standards, lead compressor sizing, and uphold safety and efficiency across live systems.

The role requires 15+ years in oil & gas EPC environments, proficiency with ASPEN HYSYS, UniSim, AVEVA E3D/PDMS, and PSV sizing tools, plus a Chartered/Professional Engineer advantage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical / Process Engineering (Mandatory).
• Minimum 15 years of oil & gas experience with EPC exposure.
• ADNOC Offshore project approval experience – Strong Advantage.
• Chartered Engineer / Professional Engineer – Advantage.
• Knowledge in Aspen HYSYS / UniSim, AVEVA E3D / PDMS (for review), PSV sizing software.

Responsibilities

• Act as Lead Process Authority for IA/PA system design and compressor sizing.
• Enforce ADNOC CoPs and API/ISO standards for compressor & air treatment.
• Provide final technical approval on process design deliverables.
• Lead Brownfield tie-ins to live IA/PA headers and offshore feasibility.
• Coordinate with Rotating, Piping, Static, Electrical and I&C teams.
• Review and approve P&IDs, datasheets, and safeguard documents.
• Support SIMOPS planning, pre-commissioning, and testing.

Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Lead Process Design Engineer shall act as the Technical Authority for all process engineering activities related to the Instrument Air (IA) and Plant Air (PA) System Upgrade, with primary focus on Air Compressors, ensuring:

• Full compliance with ADNOC Offshore Process Engineering Standards
• Protection of FEED & Design Basis integrity
• Safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operation of IA/PA systems on live offshore platforms

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Process Technical Authority (Owner’s Engineer Role)

• Act as Lead Process Authority for:
  • IA/PA system design
  • Compressor process sizing
  • Air quality & reliability requirements
• Enforce compliance with:
  • ADNOC CoPs
  • API / ISO compressor & air treatment standards
• Provide final technical approval on all process design deliverables

Air Compressor & IA/PA System Process Design

• Perform and review:
  • Compressor sizing calculations
  • Air demand balance & peak load assessment
  • System pressure drop calculations
  • Turndown & redundancy philosophy (N+1)
• Validate:
  • IA vs PA segregation
  • Dryer sizing & moisture removal efficiency
  • Air quality class suitability for instruments

Brownfield Integration & Offshore Feasibility

• Lead process engineering for:
  • Tie-ins to live IA/PA headers
  • Shutdown & operational constraints
  • Temporary air supply philosophy during changeover
• Review:
  • Laser scan & as-built data
  • Brownfield modification method statements
• Support:
  • SIMOPS planning & execution

Process Safeguarding, PSV & Safety Studies

• Lead process input for:
  • HAZID / HAZOP / ENVID
  • Relieving scenarios & PSV sizing
  • Blowdown & vent routing philosophy
• Ensure:
  • All safeguarding recommendations are implemented in P&IDs & control logic

Interfaces with Other Disciplines

• Coordinate closely with:
  • Rotating (compressors, performance)
  • Piping (headers, drops, pressure classes)
  • Static (air receivers, dryers)
  • Electrical (motor power demand)
  • I&C (control logic & interlocks)
• Support:
  • Pre-commissioning of IA/PA systems
  • Dryer changeover & air quality verification
  • Performance testing of compressors & dryers
• Provide process acceptance forRFSU

ADNOC-SPECIFIC OFFSHORE SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Enforce:
  • ADNOC PTW requirements
  • SIMOPS safety for live system tie-ins
  • Overpressure and stored energy hazard control
• Ensure:
  • Emergency blow-off and venting are compliant

SIMPLE DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING

• Process Equipment List
• Compressor & IA/PA Calculation Register
• P&ID Register
• TQ & Deviation Log
• Review and approve:
  • Process datasheets
  • P&IDs
  • Cause & Effect diagrams (interface)
  • PSV sizing and safeguarding documents

Ensure compliance with:

• Project Master Document Register (MDR)

Prepare and submit:

• Weekly Process Engineering Progress Reports
• Monthly Discipline Summary Reports

Verify and approve as-built process documentation for:

• Mechanical Completion (MC)
• Ready for Commissioning (RFC)
• Ready for Start-Up (RFSU)
