Job summary

Etihad Engineering in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Lead Design Engineer to act as a technical liaison with manufacturers and internal stakeholders. You will develop, design and integrate electrical/avionics modifications for Airbus/Boeing fleets, managing defects from troubleshooting to certification, and coordinating with vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Avionics/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years in aircraft avionics/electrical systems engineering (Part 145/Part M/Part 21).
• ATA knowledge related to aircraft avionics and electrical systems; Level 3 training preferred.
• DOA approval experience (Major/Minor) is an added advantage.
• Strong repairs, modification, retrofit, troubleshooting and AOG support background.
• Experience with OEM/airline/MRO DOA with Major/Minor privileges.
• Experience developing and integrating engineering solutions for avionics modifications.
• Good writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical solutions (troubleshooting, repairs, dispensations) for defects.
• Evaluate avionics systems and components for damages and discrepancies beyond manuals.
• Analyze defect reports to establish root cause.
• Submit defect reports with repair/deviation proposals to manufacturers.
• Ensure solutions comply with P145 or DOA scope (P21J).
• Evaluate alternative tooling options for efficiency.
• Provide stage instructions for SB/VSB/STC modification requests.
• Knowledge of EASA Part 21J and airworthiness requirements.
• Translate customer work requests into a design plan with certification considerations.
• Initiate engineering authorization for avionics repairs and modifications.
• Demonstrate compliance and verification across CS/JAR/FAR, OSD, ICA publications.
• Develop specifications for basic design data, modifications and installations in electrical power, comms, navigation, auto flight and instrumentation.
• Prepare wiring diagrams and harness build diagrams as required.
• Coordinate with vendors during design and product selection.

Job Description:

As a Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible to act as a technical liaison with Aircraft, Engines and/or Component Manufacturers and internal stakeholder, provide appropriate technical support and expertise in the disruption scenarios including the handling of technical/AOG, troubleshooting, aircraft faults/defects and to develop, design and integrate engineering solutions to support aircraft electrical/ avionics modification. Modification include but not limited to avionics system upgrade such as navigation system, electrical generation systems and communication systems on Airbus or Boeing fleets.

Responsibilities

• To provide clear, effective, concise, and technically accurate solutions (trouble shooting, major/minor repairs solution, dispensations, and concessions) for defects arising from maintenance or per customer request.
• Evaluate aircraft avionics systems, components/parts damages and provide solutions for discrepancies that are beyond the applicable manual limitation.
• Analyse defect reports to establish root cause.
• Submit a comprehensive defect report with a repair/deviation proposal to the manufacturer to obtain approval.
• Ensure that the technical solutions (repairs/deviations) are developed and approved in accordance with the organization’s procedures and comply to the applicable regulation privileges of P145 or within the scope of P21J DOA.
• Evaluate the use of alternative tooling.
• Provide stage instruction for customer modification (SB, VSB, STC, etc) request.
• Knowledge in certification requirements of EASA Part 21J and the relevant sections of airworthiness requirements.
• Review and understanding customer work request and realizing it into a design work that can be implemented on the aircraft taking into consideration all relevant certification requirements as applicable to the aircraft type.
• Initiate engineering authorization to perform minor and major avionics repair and modifications on aircraft.
• Experience in compliance demonstration and compliance verification process with relevance to all airworthiness aspects (CS/JAR/FAR, OSD, affected publications/ICA, latest regulations).
• Initiate plans and develop specifications involving basic design data, technical modifications and installations, writing modifications procedures in the areas of aircraft electrical power, communication, navigation, auto flight, and instrumentation systems.
• Prepare technical drawings (such as wiring diagrams, wiring installations and harness build up diagrams) as required.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers during design phase and selection of product.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Avionics or Aeronautical Engineering or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 10 years in related aircraft avionics / electrical systems engineering (Part 145, Part M and Part 21)
• Knowledgeable in ATA sections related to aircraft Avionics and Electrical System – A/C Type Level 3 training preferred.
• Existing or previous Compliance Verification Engineer approval is an added advantage.
• Strong background and skills in aircraft repairs, modification, retrofit development, trouble shooting and AOG support
• Experience with OEM, Airline or MRO with DOA approval with Major or Minor privilege.
• Experience in Developing, designing and integrating engineering solutions to support aircraft electrical/ avionics modification.
• Good writing and communication skills
