Job summary

Etihad Engineering seeks a Lead Design Engineer to act as a technical liaison with Aircraft, Engines and manufacturers, providing expert support for disruption scenarios, troubleshooting, defects, and to design/integrate engineering solutions for electrical/avionics modifications on Airbus or Boeing fleets.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. degree in Electrical, Electronics, Avionics or Aeronautical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years in related aircraft avionics/electrical systems engineering (Part 145, Part M and Part 21).
• ATA sections knowledge related to aircraft Avionics and Electrical Systems; A/C Type Level 3 training preferred.
• Experience with OEM, Airline or MRO with DOA approval with Major or Minor privilege.
• Existing or previous Compliance Verification Engineer approval is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical solutions (troubleshooting, repairs, concessions) for defects arising from maintenance or customer requests.
• Evaluate avionics systems and components damages; propose solutions beyond manual limitations.
• Submit comprehensive defect reports with a repair/deviation proposal to the manufacturer for approval.
• Ensure technical solutions are developed/approved per procedures and comply with P145 or P21J DOA scope.
• Evaluate the use of alternative tooling and processes.
• Knowledge of certification requirements of EASA Part 21J and airworthiness regulations.
• Review customer work requests and translate into a design ready for implementation.
• Initiate engineering authorization to perform avionics repairs/modifications.
• Demonstrate compliance and verification with airworthiness requirements (CS/JAR/FAR, OSD, ICA, etc.).
• Develop specifications involving basic design data, modifications, and installations for aircraft electrical power, comms, navigation, auto flight, and instrumentation.
• Prepare wiring diagrams and harness build diagrams as required.
• Coordinate with vendors during design phase and product selection.

Job description

As a Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible to act as a technical liaison with Aircraft, Engines and/or Component Manufacturers and internal stakeholder, provide appropriate technical support and expertise in the disruption scenarios including the handling of technical/AOG, troubleshooting, aircraft faults/defects and to develop, design and integrate engineering solutions to support aircraft electrical/ avionics modification. Modification include but not limited to avionics system upgrade such as navigation system, electrical generation systems and communication systems on Airbus or Boeing fleets.

Accountabilities

• To provide clear, effective, concise, and technically accurate solutions (trouble shooting, major/minor repairs solution, dispensations, and concessions) for defects arising from maintenance or per customer request.
• Evaluate aircraft avionics systems, components/parts damages and provide solutions for discrepancies that are beyond the applicable manual limitation.
• Submit a comprehensive defect report with a repair/deviation proposal to the manufacturer to obtain approval.
• Ensure that the technical solutions (repairs/deviations) are developed and approved in accordance with the organization’s procedures and comply to the applicable regulation privileges of P145 or within the scope of P21J DOA.
• Evaluate the use of alternative tooling.
• Knowledge in certification requirements of EASA Part 21J and the relevant sections of airworthiness requirements.
• Review and understanding customer work request and realizing it into a design work that can be implemented on the aircraft taking into consideration all relevant certification requirements as applicable to the aircraft type.
• Initiate engineering authorization to perform minor and major avionics repair and modifications on aircraft.
• Experience in compliance demonstration and compliance verification process with relevance to all airworthiness aspects (CS/JAR/FAR, OSD, affected publications/ICA, latest regulations).
• Initiate plans and develop specifications involving basic design data, technical modifications and installations, writing modifications procedures in the areas of aircraft electrical power, communication, navigation, auto flight, and instrumentation systems.
• Prepare technical drawings (such as wiring diagrams, wiring installations and harness build up diagrams) as required.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers during design phase and selection of product.

Education & Experience

• B.Sc. Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Avionics or Aeronautical Engineering or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 10 years in related aircraft avionics / electrical systems engineering (Part 145, Part M and Part 21)
• Knowledgeable in ATA sections related to aircraft Avionics and Electrical System – A/C Type Level 3 training preferred.
• Existing or previous Compliance Verification Engineer approval is an added advantage.
• Strong background and skills in aircraft repairs, modification, retrofit development, trouble shooting and AOG support
• Experience with OEM, Airline or MRO with DOA approval with Major or Minor privilege.
• Experience in Developing, designing and integrating engineering solutions to support aircraft electrical/ avionics modification.
