Job summary

NMDC Dredging & Marine in Abu Dhabi seeks a Senior Computational Design Specialist to lead and deploy advanced design tools across the group. You will collaborate with the Head of Engineering to identify automation opportunities and implement parametric workflows that improve project outcomes.

The role requires 6+ years in engineering design, expertise in Rhino/Grasshopper/Tekla/Revit and coding in C# or Python, with a focus on reusable libraries and data-driven design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Computational Design, Computer Science or related discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in engineering and design, focusing on computational design, digital engineering and automation.
• Proven experience with parametric workflows and development of automation tools.
• Strong knowledge of BIM standards and platforms (Tekla, Revit) and related workflows.

• Collaborate with the Head of Engineering and Engineering Managers to identify opportunities for developing computational design tools that support and enhance all engineering disciplines.
• Lead the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of computational design tools across the NMDC Group.
• Proactively research, evaluate, and recommend technology solutions and workflows to address client requirements, project challenges, and business objectives.
• Bridge the gap between engineering design and technology by leveraging computational methods to explore innovative solutions and optimize project outcomes.
• Develop parametric models, definitions, and design tools to drive automation and efficiency within the maritime engineering sector.
• Create, maintain, and enhance well-documented, scalable engineering libraries using appropriate programming languages.
• Champion the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) practices and integrate computational design workflows with BIM platforms such as Tekla and Revit.
• Apply data analysis, simulation, and modelling techniques to support informed engineering and design decisions.
• Effectively communicate computational design concepts, methodologies, and results to clients and stakeholders in a clear and accessible manner.
• Develop and deliver training programs to enhance organizational capabilities and promote best practices in computational design.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Computational Design, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in engineering and design, with a strong focus on delivering computational design, digital engineering, and automation solutions.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing computational design workflows, parametric modelling, and engineering automation tools.
• Strong knowledge of Rhinoceros 3D (Rhino), Grasshopper, or other parametric design platforms and methodologies.
• Proficiency in C# and/or Python, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming and experience developing reusable libraries and software solutions.
• Demonstrated track record of developing and implementing parametric scripts, models, and optimization solutions for complex engineering structures.
• Expertise in Building Information Modelling (BIM) standards, processes, and best practices, with proficiency in Tekla, Revit, or similar BIM platforms.
• Strong engineering and design capabilities, with the creativity and analytical thinking required to solve complex design challenges.
• Experience with version control systems, continuous integration (CI), and software testing practices.
• Passion for research and continuous learning, with a keen interest in staying current with emerging computational design technologies and industry trends.
