Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Land Surveyor - Construction Control for Dubai, UAE. The role involves establishing horizontal and vertical control, supervising contractor survey work, and maintaining precise field records throughout construction.

You will work under the Resident Engineer, ensuring survey data supports project delivery, validation of construction, and accurate reporting. Minimum 10 years of professional experience and a full-time position are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of professional land surveying experience.
• Strong experience supporting construction supervision and site-based engineering projects.
• Thorough understanding of horizontal control, vertical control, setting-out, leveling, and traversing.

Responsibilities

• Review contract documents, detailed drawings, specifications, survey requirements and project updates.
• Perform construction and land surveying assignments under the direction of the Resident Engineer.
• Establish primary horizontal and vertical control points across the project site.
• Install reference ties to re-establish damaged or displaced control points.
• Develop survey information from photogrammetric records where required.
• Conduct ground surveys to establish baselines, benchmarks, elevations, coordinates, and geodetic measurements.
• Record field measurements, rod readings, observations, and calculations in field books.
• Coordinate daily survey priorities and work schedules with the contractor’s surveyor.
• Check contractor setting-out activities to confirm correct position, alignment, level, and orientation.
• Complete traverse closures, bench circuits, and independent checks to validate survey results.
• Identify survey discrepancies and report technical concerns to the Resident Engineer or team leader.
• Coordinate survey findings with engineers, architects, contractors, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare or supervise preparation of charts, plots, survey maps, control reports, and related documentation.

Position Overview

The role supports building and infrastructure delivery by establishing reliable horizontal and vertical controls, checking contractor survey work, validating completed construction, and maintaining accurate field records. The Land Surveyor will work under the direction of the Resident Engineer and provide dependable survey information throughout construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Review contract documents, detailed drawings, specifications, survey requirements, and related project updates.
• Perform construction and land surveying assignments under the direction of the Resident Engineer.
• Establish primary horizontal and vertical control points across the project site.
• Install reference ties that allow damaged or displaced control points to be re‑established.
• Develop survey information from photogrammetric records where required.
• Conduct ground surveys to establish baselines, benchmarks, elevations, coordinates, and geodetic measurements.

• Verify the accuracy of measurements and calculations completed at survey locations.

• Identify survey discrepancies and report technical concerns to the Resident Engineer or designated team leader.
• Calculate heights, depths, elevations, relative positions, property lines, gradients, and terrain characteristics.
• Verify that completed work conforms to the line, grade, coordinates, and dimensions shown on approved plans.
• Coordinate inspection checks with the civil inspector responsible for the relevant work activity.
• Perform joint measurements of completed works for valuation and payment purposes.
• Prepare quantity and measurement records that provide clear commercial and technical evidence.
• Review the contractor’s survey submissions and confirm consistency with approved control systems.
• Maintain accurate sketches, notes, maps, calculations, survey reports, and supporting records.
• Prepare or supervise the preparation of charts, plots, survey maps, control reports, and related documentation.
• Produce legal descriptions and certified survey records where required by the project.
• Coordinate survey findings with engineers, architects, contractors, clients, and other project stakeholders.
• Support the preparation of as‑built survey information for completed construction elements.
• Protect established benchmarks, survey markers, and reference points throughout the construction period.
• Maintain surveying equipment in proper working condition.
• Perform routine calibration checks and arrange formal verification when required.
• Ensure instruments are stored, transported, and operated according to manufacturer guidance.
• Apply project safety procedures, quality controls, and approved survey processes during all activities.
• Monitor health and safety conditions associated with survey work and report violations immediately.
• Maintain safe working practices near excavations, lifting operations, traffic routes, structures, and active machinery.
• Attend in‑person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.

Ideal Profile

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional land surveying experience.
• Strong experience supporting construction supervision and site‑based engineering projects.
• Thorough understanding of horizontal control, vertical control, setting‑out, leveling, and traversing.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, coordinate schedules, and contract requirements.
• Practical experience checking contractor setting‑out and independently verifying survey accuracy.
• Strong knowledge of traverse closures, bench circuits, geodetic measurements, and control networks.
• Experience completing joint measurements for progress valuation or contractor payment.
• Ability to verify completed works against required line, grade, elevation, and dimensions.
• Familiarity with photogrammetric records and survey data development.
• Experience preparing survey plots, maps, sketches, charts, reports, and certified records.
• Strong numerical ability and careful attention to field observations and calculations.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with resident engineers, inspectors, architects, contractors, and clients.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for resolving conflicting coordinates, levels, or setting‑out information.
• Knowledge of construction quality control and survey verification procedures.
• Understanding of health and safety risks associated with active construction sites.
