Job description

The Land Surveyor is responsible for providing precise spatial positioning, control, setting out, and vertical alignment monitoring for high-rise and tower construction projects. Operating as a core member of the main contractor\'s site team, the surveyor ensures all structural elements—including deep foundations, podiums, core walls, columns, slabs, and MEP tie-ins\' are executed in strict accordance with approved shop drawings, project specifications, and local authority benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities
1. Control & Primary Layout Setup
  • Establish, verify, and maintain primary site control networks (benchmarks, baselines, and control points) for horizontal and vertical positioning.
  • Transfer horizontal control points vertically upward using optical plumb instruments, laser plumbs, or total stations as the tower rises floor-by-floor (plumb line transfer / zenith surveying).
  • Perform daily calibration and maintenance checks on all surveying equipment (Total Stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, Digital Levels, Laser Plumbs).
2. Setting Out & Construction Execution
  • Carry out site setting out and layout works for deep foundations (piling, secant walls, raft foundations), core walls, columns, beams, slab edges, and MEP penetration points.
  • Mark exact elevation references and transfer floor levels across all structural decks.
  • Verify formwork, rebar positions, embedded plates, and hold-down bolts prior to concrete pours.
3. Monitoring & Quality Control
  • Conduct verticality checks on slip-form/self-climbing formwork, core walls, and structural columns during high-rise erection.
  • Perform structural settlement and lateral movement monitoring on the tower, surrounding soil retention systems, and adjacent structures throughout the construction phases.
  • Conduct post-pour as-built surveys to verify structural tolerances and detect any deflection or deviation early.
4. Data Processing & Reporting
  • Download field survey data, process raw measurements, and prepare detailed as-built survey drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Identify, document, and report discrepancies between design drawings and actual site conditions to the Site Manager and QA/QC Engineer.
  • Maintain complete, organized survey records, field logbooks, and calibration reports for project handover and audit compliance.
5. Stakeholder Coordination & Safety
  • Collaborate closely with Site Engineers, Project Managers, Subcontractors, and Consultant Surveyors to ensure smooth execution of daily site activities.
  • Adhere strictly to project Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines, specifically regarding high-rise edge work, crane operations, and working at height.
Required Qualifications & Key Skills
  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor\’s Degree in Survey Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5 to 8+ years of direct field experience as a Land Surveyor in general contracting, with at least 3 years specifically dedicated to high-rise or tower building construction projects.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Proficient in operating modern surveying equipment: Total Stations (Leica, Topcon, Trimble), GNSS/GPS, Digital Levels, and Laser Zenith Plumb systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, survey calculation tools, and basic GIS data processing.
  • Demonstrated mastery of high-rise survey methodologies, including vertical control transfer, structural deflection monitoring, and tight tolerance setting out.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural, structural, and MEP shop drawings.
  • Soft Skills: High analytical precision, strong problem-solving under pressure, clear communication, and the physical stamina required for active construction site environments.
