Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist faculty with data extraction, cleaning, preparation, visualization, and preliminary analysis.
• Monitor lab utilization and prepare reports on usage, licenses, inventory, and performance.
• Coordinate software licensing and renewals with faculty, procurement, IT, and vendors.
• Maintain inventory for equipment and software assets; coordinate annual inventories.
• Prepare budget forecasts and expenditure reports for labs and infrastructure.
• Coordinate upgrades and technology enhancements; maintain documentation and guides.
• Train faculty, staff, TAs, and students on lab systems and data management.
• Coordinate with departments to resolve technical and service issues.

The Labs Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision, administration, and technical operation of the School of Business Administration’s (SBA) Behavioral Research Lab and computer laboratories. The position supports faculty and student research activities by coordinating laboratory-based experiments, managing laboratory infrastructure, administering research software and databases, providing data management and analytical support, and ensuring compliance with university policies and research protocols.

The incumbent serves as a primary liaison between faculty researchers, IT Services, Procurement, Facilities, Finance, and external vendors to ensure the effective and efficient operation of research and teaching laboratories. The position is also responsible for software licensing and renewals, laboratory budgeting and reporting, equipment maintenance, participant management, and the implementation of research technologies that support the School’s research productivity and educational mission.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Behavioral Research Lab and SBA computer laboratories.
• Coordinate, schedule, and support laboratory-based experiments, research projects, and data collection activities.
• Maintain laboratory computers, servers, networks, software, and research equipment in coordination with IT Services to ensure reliable and uninterrupted operations.
• Install, configure, test, and troubleshoot research software, databases, and technology platforms used for teaching and research.
• Administer experimental research platforms, including oTree, z-Tree, Qualtrics, Prolific, MTurk, and related technologies.
• Develop and maintain participant recruitment systems and databases in accordance with applicable privacy, ethical, and research requirements.
• Provide faculty, graduate students, and student researchers with technical support for research projects, experimental implementation, and data collection procedures.
• Support faculty with data extraction, cleaning, preparation, visualization, and preliminary analysis using statistical software and programming tools.
• Monitor laboratory utilization and prepare regular reports on laboratory usage, research activities, software licenses, equipment inventory, and operational performance.
• Coordinate software licensing and renewal processes with faculty, Procurement, IT Services, and external vendors to ensure uninterrupted access to research and teaching resources.
• Maintain accurate inventory records for laboratory equipment, software assets, and technology resources, and coordinate annual inventory exercises.
• Prepare budget forecasts and expenditure reports related to laboratory operations, equipment replacement, software subscriptions, and research infrastructure.
• Coordinate laboratory upgrades, technology enhancements, and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Develop, maintain, and update laboratory policies, procedures, user guides, and operational documentation.
• Train faculty, staff, teaching assistants, and student researchers on laboratory systems, research platforms, and data management procedures.
• Coordinate with IT Services, Facilities, Procurement, Finance, and external vendors to resolve technical, operational, and service-related issues.
• Ensure compliance with university policies, information security standards, research ethics requirements, and health and safety regulations.
• Support accreditation, rankings, annual reporting, and strategic planning initiatives by providing accurate laboratory and research-related data and reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation.

Qualifications and Skills Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
• Minimum of three years of relevant experience in laboratory management, research administration, research technology support, data analytics, or a related field.
• Experience supporting academic research environments and faculty research projects, preferably within a higher education setting.
• Experience managing software licenses, technology procurement, and vendor relationships.
• Experience with experimental research platforms, databases, and statistical or analytical software is preferred.
• Strong project management, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines effectively.
