Job summary

GEMS Education is seeking an Assistant Librarian to support the School Librarian in the daily running of the library, creating a welcoming, organised and engaging environment that promotes reading, research and independent learning across the school.

Qualifications

• Experience as TA/HLTA or in a similar school-based support role is desirable.
• Interest in books, reading and literacy and supporting young people.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Willingness to learn library management systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist the School Librarian with the daily organisation and smooth running of the library.
• Assist students and staff in locating books, resources and other learning materials.
• Support issuing, returning, shelving and organisation of library resources.
• Help maintain accurate library records and ensure resources are labelled and catalogued.
• Assist with creating attractive library displays and promoting new books and events.
• Support students during library lessons and independent study periods.
• Encourage a positive reading culture and help students develop confidence in using library resources.
• Assist with stock checks and identifying damaged, missing or outdated resources.
• Support school-wide literacy initiatives, book fairs and author visits.
• Ensure the library remains a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
