Job summary

Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai seeks an experienced Interior Designer/Interior Architect to lead interior design across rail and related infrastructure projects from concept to construction. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design or interior architecture with 15+ years in large transport projects.
  • Experience leading interior design from concept through construction in metro/public transport.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and multidisciplinary coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interior design for metro stations and related facilities.

  • Coordinate with structural, MEP, planning teams for integrated designs.

Job description

  • To support the architectural design review, coordination, and site verification activities for rail and related infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with approved standards, aesthetic and functional requirements, sustainability principles, and regulatory guidelines. The role ensures that all architectural elements from concept through construction are technically sound, well-coordinated, and aligned with RTA’s design objectives.
  • To manage/present and , advice on the designs insights for higher management.
  • Review design narratives, reports and presentations of the designs of Rail Projects.
  • Participate in the interior design studies for rail projects.
  • Lead , assist and verify the Interior designs of Rail Projects with the relevant disciplines.
  • Advice the latest design trends, new materials and finishes available in the industry to enrich the design of Rail Projects.
  • Develop innovative, functional and passenger-focused interior design solutions.
  • Support the development of architectural inputs in line with RTA and Rail Agency guidelines, sustainability objectives, accessibility principles, and approved architectural strategies.
  • Assist in embedding value engineering concepts, material optimization, and constructability considerations into architectural design packages.
  • Participate in Rail design section projects from initiation, RFP/scope preparation, prequalification, tender, tender, evaluation and awarding.
Operations
  • Strong knowledge of interior design for metro station and public transport facilities. Also, should be familiar with sustainability principles and modern trends in transport design, understand the accessibility, safety , emergency standards (FLS) and relevant international codes.
  • Participate in detailed architectural design reviews for stations, ancillary buildings, façades, public areas, circulation spaces, technical rooms (layout only), and facility upgrades, ensuring compliance with architectural codes, design standards and provide technical feedback. Also,, strong ability to select appropriate materials and finishes in terms of project requirement, durability, fire resistance , maintenance …etc..
  • Participate in the pre- and post-tender stages of all rail projects, including supporting prequalification activities and providing technical feedback to strengthen evaluation and decision-making.
  • Review the consultant submissions by validating layouts, materials, finishes, access/egress provisions, and overall architectural compatibility with RTA requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance for the quality/specification of the materials/products and work done and managing inspection/testing activities regularly during the implementation stages of the project.
  • Manage the interior design of the rail stations and Supervise the retail fit out inspections and handover including Preparing inspection reports and document project specifications.
  • Conduct routine architectural site inspections to verify quality of finishes, material compliance, workmanship, alignment with approved drawings, and adherence to regulatory, safety codes and provide technical report.
  • Coordinate with structural, MEP, systems, and planning teams, along with internal stakeholders, to resolve design issues, protect architectural intent, and ensure seamless, cross-disciplinary integration throughout the project.
Product / Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to enhance Interior design processes, including improving drawing workflows, quality checklists, review templates, and documentation standards.
  • Recommend innovations in architectural materials, construction techniques, and sustainable design solutions that improve durability, user experience, and lifecycle efficiency.
  • Support implementation of digital design tools, architectural visualization methods, and standardized detail libraries to improve accuracy and reduce design errors.
  • Participate in lessons-learned reviews and contribute to the continuous update of design guidelines, standard details, design governance procedures, and value engineering practices across the project lifecycle.
Physical Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a mixed environment involving office-based design review and site inspections at stations, construction areas, and operational facilities.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, A master’s degree is an advantage.
Experience
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience in interior design or Interior Architecture.
  • At least 15 years dedicated to metro or other major transportation projects, signature/iconic project.
  • Experience on at least 2–3 major metro or Transit projects, preferably in the Middle East or internationally recognized rail systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the interior design of large public transport Projects from initial study, concept design through construction documentation and site support.
  • Other experience will be advantages like, arts, hospitality and mega projects.
Qualification
  • Preferred to have Certifications for relevant software such as, BIM (Revit), AutoCAD, Navisworks, Rhino and other multidisciplinary coordination.
