Job summary

Bureau Veritas in Abu Dhabi seeks an Inspector - Coating & Painting to support our Painting & Coating activities on offshore projects. You will perform inspections, review procedures, and ensure compliance with applicable standards.

With strong knowledge of ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS, you will lead surface profile checks, thickness tests, and post-coating verification while coordinating with clients and project teams to ensure quality and safety.

Qualifications

Minimum required: NACE / CSWIP / British Gas Painting / Painting inspector Grade II or approved equivalent.
Training: NACE / CSWIP / British Gas Painting / Painting inspector Grade II or approved equivalent.
Education: Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or HNC.

Responsibilities

Review and comment/approve contractor’s painting, coating & wrapping procedures.
Carry out inspection of surface profile and chloride contamination tests as per standards.
Monitor weather and equipment during painting and coating operations.
Ensure paints come from approved manufacturers with valid pot life.
Verify application of coating per manufacturer data sheet and approved specs.
Ensure proper inter-coat intervals for bonding.
Witness Dry Film Thickness and holiday tests with calibrated equipment.
Monitor surface prep and curing operations on riser pipes/clamps.

Technical knowledge

Strong knowledge of the International Codes & Standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS.

Experience

Responsibilities / Authorities / Accountabilities

Review and comment / approve contractor’s Painting, coating & wrapping procedures.
Carry out inspection of surface profile, chloride contamination test as per applicable standards.
Monitor weather and equipment condition during Painting, coating operation
Ensure that paint materials are used from approved paint manufacturers with valid pot life.
Ensure that the application of coating is carried out as per the technical data-sheet of the manufacturer and approved painting specification.
Ensure that proper time intervals between intermediate coats for proper chemical and mechanical bonding.
Witness / checking of Dry Film Thickness and Holiday detection / Pin hole detection’s and Ensure that calibrated testing equipment is used.
Monitor surface preparation, application of bonding agent, elastomer, wrapping and curing operation (for Neoprene coating) on riser pipes / clamps.
Witness post curing tests such as hardness, spark test, sound test, adhesion test, visual and dimensional check etc. on riser pipes / clamps.
Monitor surface preparation, application of CTE coating and post curing tests on pipeline.
Monitor surface preparation, application of heat shrink sleeves, holiday tests on field joints.
Monitor surface preparation, wrapping (Servi wrap M 30 B), holiday detection and doping on offshore pipeline.
Strong knowledge of the International Codes & Standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS.
Experience with Painting / Coating Inspection according to relevant Codes.
Application of Codes and standards, project specifications and procedures.
Within his field of competency, the inspector is expected to conduct the activities stated in Primary functions.
Fully conversant with relevant inspection techniques and able to select the most appropriate inspection technique.
Able to verify and approve Non-conformities / corrective actions
Able to identify required Bureau Veritas interventions, based on a pre-defined Quality Plan and according to specified standards.
Able to review / appraise inspection procedures
