Job summary

Bureau Veritas Abu Dhabi is seeking experienced Painting & Coating Inspectors to join the Abu Dhabi IND team. The role involves reviewing contractor procedures, performing surface and coating inspections, and ensuring compliance with international codes such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS.

Candidates should hold a mechanical engineering degree or HNC and have extensive field inspection experience. Responsibilities include monitoring weather, equipment, and coating processes, and performing

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years experience for Inspector/Technician in similar field
• Engineer Surveyor: 8 years in similar field
• Senior Engineer Surveyor: 10 years in similar field

Responsibilities

• Review and approve contractor’s painting, coating, and wrapping procedures.
• Inspect surface profile and test for chlorides as per standards.
• Monitor weather and equipment during painting and coating operations.
• Ensure paint materials come from approved manufacturers with valid pot life.
• Ensure coating application follows technical data sheets and approved specs.
• Verify proper intervals between coats for bonding and curing.
• Witness Dry Film Thickness and holiday/pin-hole tests with calibrated equipment.
• Monitor surface prep, bonding agent application, wrapping, and curing on risers.
• Witness post-curing tests (hardness, spark, sound, adhesion) on riser pipes/clamps.
• Monitor application of CTE coating and job-specific tests on pipelines.

NACE / CSWIP / British Gas Painting / Painting inspector Grade II or an approved equivalent.

Technical knowledge

Strong knowledge of the International Codes & Standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS.

Experience with Painting/Coating Inspection according to relevant Codes.

Primary Functions

1. Review and comment / approve contractor’s Painting, coating & wrapping procedures.
2. Carry out inspection of surface profile, chloride contamination test as per applicable standards.
3. Monitor weather and equipment condition during Painting, coating operation
4. Ensure that paint materials are used from approved paint manufacturers with valid pot life.
5. Ensure that the application of coating is carried out as per the technical data-sheet of the manufacturer and approved painting specification.
6. Ensure that proper time intervals between intermediate coats for proper chemical and mechanical bonding.
7. Witness / checking of Dry Film Thickness and Holiday detection / Pin hole detection’s and Ensure that calibrated testing equipment is used.
8. Monitor surface preparation, application of bonding agent, elastomer, wrapping and curing operation (for Neoprene coating) on riser pipes / clamps.
9. Witness post curing tests such as hardness, spark test, sound test, adhesion test, visual and dimensional check etc. on riser pipes / clamps.
10. Monitor surface preparation, application of CTE coating and post curing tests on pipeline.
11. Monitor surface preparation, application of heat shrink sleeves, holiday tests on field joints.
12. Monitor surface preparation, wrapping (Servi wrap M 30 B), holiday detection and doping on offshore pipeline.
    • Strong knowledge of the International Codes & Standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS.
    • Experience with Painting / Coating Inspection according to relevant Codes.
    • Application of Codes and standards, project specifications and procedures.
    • Within his field of competency, the inspector is expected to conduct the activities stated in Primary functions.
    • Fully conversant with relevant inspection techniques and able to select the most appropriate inspection technique.
    • Able to verify and approve Non-conformities / corrective actions
    • Able to identify required Bureau Veritas interventions, based on a pre-defined Quality Plan and according to specified standards.

1. Comply at all times with all applicable legal requirements, BV Abu Dhabi HSE Policies and procedures, client’s HSE procedures and code of practices.
2. Maintain personal work areas tidy and hazard free and report any deviation/fault/hazard immediately to the location manager/line manager/supervisor
3. Report immediately any newly identified hazard and participate in devising suitable operational control to eliminate/minimize the pertinent risk.
4. Report immediately any HSE incident and cooperate in investigation
5. Use appropriate PPE at work area and be aware of:
   • the risks appropriate PPE will control or minimize
   • Report immediately incase the PPE is worn off or lost.
6. Communicate to their immediate manager any unsafe work practice or condition and opportunities for improvement of HSE practices.
