Job summary

KBR is growing its PMC team for an offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The Coating Specialist will supervise surface preparation, painting, coating, and corrosion protection on offshore jackets, topsides, pipelines, and vessels in accordance with ADNOC Offshore specs.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 (minimum), 10+ years' coating inspection experience, and strong QA/QC documentation skills. ADNOC project experience is preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering or equivalent.
NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 (minimum) and relevant offshore coating certifications.
10+ years of coating inspection experience in Oil & Gas, EPC, offshore or petrochemical projects.

Responsibilities

Monitor and supervise coating preparation, application, and corrosion protection on offshore jackets, topsides, pipelines, and equipment.
Review and approve coating procedures, ITPs, and QC documentation in line with ADNOC Offshore specs.
Coordinate with ADNOC Offshore representatives and third-party inspectors during audits and surveillance.
Maintain coatings inspection records, punch lists, and close-out actions; ensure compliance with applicable standards.

Job Title: Coating Specialist – Offshore Project

KBR is growing its Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for an exciting, high‑profile offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The ADNOC PMC project role would be based in Contractors Office in Abu Dhabi .

Job Purpose

The Coating Specialist is responsible for supervising and inspecting all surface preparation, painting, coating, and corrosion protection activities associated with offshore facilities. The role ensures compliance with ADNOC Offshore specifications, international coating standards, approved procedures, and project quality requirements to maintain asset integrity and operational reliability.

Coating Inspection & Quality Control

Monitor and inspect surface preparation and coating application activities for offshore structures, modules, piping systems, pressure vessels, and equipment.

Verify compliance with ADNOC Offshore specifications, project requirements, and coating manufacturer recommendations.

Review and approve coating procedures, method statements, ITPs, and quality documentation.

Ensure proper environmental conditions are maintained during blasting and painting operations.

Witness coating activities during fabrication, construction, pre-commissioning, and installation phases.

Inspection Activities

Perform and verify:

Surface cleanliness inspections (SSPC/NACE standards)

Surface profile measurements

Ambient condition monitoring

Wet Film Thickness (WFT) inspection

Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurements

Holiday detection testing

Adhesion testing

Salt contamination testing

Coating curing verification

Visual coating assessments

Offshore Corrosion Protection

Review corrosion mitigation programs for offshore assets.

Monitor protective coating systems for splash zones, submerged structures, and atmospheric exposure areas.

Coordinate coating touch-up and repair activities during fabrication and installation.

Verify compatibility of coating systems with cathodic protection requirements.

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain coating inspection records and daily reports.

Review subcontractor quality records and test results.

Prepare punch lists and monitor coating-related close-out activities.

Support preparation of Mechanical Completion and Quality Dossiers.

Manage NCRs, observations, and corrective actions related to coating activities.

Client & Third-Party Coordination

Interface with ADNOC Offshore representatives and third-party inspectors.

Participate in quality audits and surveillance activities.

Attend project quality meetings and provide technical support on coating issues.

Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent.

Mandatory Certifications

NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 (Minimum)

NACE CIP Level 3 (Preferred)

BGAS Grade 2 Painting Inspector (Preferred)

CSWIP Painting Inspector Certification (Preferred)

Experience Requirements

Minimum 10 years of coating inspection experience in Oil & Gas, EPC, offshore, or petrochemical projects.

Minimum 5 years of experience on ADNOC Offshore projects or equivalent major offshore developments.
