Job description
Overview

The Health and Safety Specialist roles are open to persons with mid-level experience in HSE. The Health and Safety Specialists will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of the client’s health and safety systems and programs. They will ensure compliance with local regulations and internal systems, promoting a strong safety culture and reducing workplace risks through inspections, training and audits. Each Health and Safety Specialist will be based on their allocated primary client site, but occasional travel to other sites may be required. Multiple positions are available so applications from persons living in all UAE Emirates are welcomed.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all risks have been identified, suitably controlled and that detailed Risk Assessments, Safe Work Procedures, Risk Registers and Risk Assessment Action Plans are developed, implemented and revised regularly
  • Ensure that the safe working practices are communicated to all involved, provide training and implement appropriately
  • Ensure that all the activities related to the site operations are closely monitored in terms of the health and safety implications and all the required controls are applied appropriately
  • Act as escalation point of contact in the event of accidents and serious incidents COHS_PER_002-0_EHS SPEC JD
  • Highlight to the client and Corporate OHS management any health and safety concerns and aspects that require immediate attention in the site
  • Provide training to include ongoing support and learning to client to ensure HSE protocols are understood and become ‘normal routine’ for all persons attending the site
  • Ensure that any changes (which will naturally occur due to the nature of the work and requirements) are considered, following the ADOSH-SF Management of Change Procedure, and communicated and that a rigid structure is in place to control these changes
  • Ensure a robust reporting system for all incidents including near misses; carry out accident investigations, root cause analysis and trend analysis undertaken every month and the data communicated with client
  • Ensure all records are properly maintained, managed, and shared with relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure that any tracking/monitoring sheets for the incidents/inspections/audits/corrective actions etc. are in place and made available at all times
  • Ensure inspections, audits are undertaken as per agreed schedule, corrective/preventive actions are implemented and closed out with evidence as per the agreed timeline
  • Support emergency preparedness and response planning and drills
  • Deliver toolbox talks and conduct HSE inductions and refresher training sessions for staff and contractors
  • Monitor and report on health and safety KPIs, incidents, and trends to management
  • Ensure strict adherence to all KPI’s and SLA’s in place
  • Stay informed about legal and industry developments relating to health and safety and apply best practices accordingly
  • Support sustainability and occupational health initiatives where applicable
Skills
  • NEBOSH Diploma (preferable)
  • NEBOSH IGC (mandatory)
  • ISO 45001 Internal or Lead Auditor certificate
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a health and safety specific role
  • Experience years primarily derived from within the GCC
  • In depth knowledge of all UAE Federal level Health and Safety laws
  • Extensive knowledge of ADOSH SF and the ISO 45001 standard
  • Exemplary English speaking and writing competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships with client, colleagues and all other on site resources
  • Possession of excellent English writing and verbal skills is essential
  • Pleasant personality able to integrate quickly and work well with large numbers of people
  • Must be detail oriented and able to prepare and evaluate documents/reports to a very high standard
