Job summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging FS2 lessons and learning experiences aligned with the school’s Early Years curriculum.

  • Use purposeful play, guided activities, direct instruction, storytelling, investigation, and outdoor learning to support development.
  • Design learning opportunities that strengthen communication, language, literacy, mathematics, physical development, and personal well‑being.
  • Adapt teaching to meet different developmental stages, learning needs, language abilities, and interests.
  • Establish clear classroom routines that help children feel secure, responsible, and ready to learn.
  • Provide suitable support and challenge so that every child can make meaningful progress.
  • Observe children carefully and use assessment evidence to guide future planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of attainment, development, participation, and individual learning priorities.
  • Prepare learning journals, progress summaries, reports, and other required documentation.
  • Identify children who may require additional support and coordinate appropriate interventions.
  • Work closely with inclusion teams, pastoral staff, and external professionals where necessary.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and provide regular information about children’s progress and wellbeing.
  • Participate in parent meetings, school events, workshops, and community activities.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants to organise resources, manage routines, and support individual learners.
  • Share effective teaching practices with Early Years colleagues and contribute to team planning.

  • Promote positive behaviour through encouragement, modelling, consistency, and age‑appropriate guidance.
  • Support children’s emotional regulation, friendships, confidence, and transition into school routines.
  • Follow safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and school compliance requirements.
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, curriculum reviews, and school improvement activities.
  • Contribute actively to extracurricular programmes and community‑based events.
  • Reflect on teaching practice and pursue continuous improvement in student learning and wellbeing.
Ideal Profile & Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Education degree or an equivalent bachelor’s degree with PGCE, PGDE, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience teaching Early Years or Foundation Stage children.
  • Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate teaching practice.
  • Ability to share exemplary classroom methods and contribute to team improvement.
  • Experience planning play‑based, inquiry‑led, and child‑centred learning.
