Job summary

Shou'alah in Dubai seeks an Environmental Engineer to oversee regulatory compliance and the company’s environmental policies across its operations in the UAE. You will support plant teams to meet ongoing regulatory and contractual environmental requirements.

The role includes managing EMS documentation, coordinating with regulators, conducting audits, and producing monthly performance reports. You will develop risk assessments and maintain the Plant Environmental Aspects & Impacts Register,

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years environmental experience in the power generation industry or similar environment.
• Depth knowledge and experience in establishing, implementing, maintaining and auditing ISO 14001 EMS.
• Familiarity with additional standards (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001) is preferred.
• Knowledge of UAE environmental laws and IFC Environmental Performance Standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and manage all documentation related to Environmental Management System to ensure ISO14001 compliance.
• Provide environmental support and advice to QHSE Manager and Plant Team as required.
• Maintain relations with regulators and local authorities and accompany site visits with documentation.
• Ensure regulatory reporting and monitoring compliance, including site environmental permits.
• Carry out and document periodic inspections and audits to verify environmental compliance.
• Prepare monthly environmental performance reports.
• Develop and maintain Plant Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register and track actions to closure.
• Review risk assessments and work procedures to manage environmental risks.
• Investigate environmental incidents and issue HSE alerts / lessons learned.
• Maintain records and data in written or electronic form and ensure data accuracy.
• Follow-up daily CEMS values and prepare monthly summary reports and logs.
• Organize spill drills, ensure spill kits are available, and arrange environmental training.

Job Scope Summary

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for the compliance with environmental regulations and targets for the administration of the company environmental policies, and procedures, supporting the plants continued operation in compliance with regulatory and corporate environmental regulations and procedures, federal and state environmental regulations, output requirements and contractual obligations.

Job Responsibilities

The Environmental Engineer manages the company's Environmental programs and development, policies, and procedures to prevent, eliminate, control and reduce work related hazards and maintain environmental responsibility

Performs the tasks concerning compliance with legal requirements and improvement measures of the Integrated Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001) in conformance with the relevant norms, rules and regulations.

These tasks include in particular:

• Develop, maintain and manage all documentation related to Environmental Management System to ensure compliance with ISO14001 Guidelines, and ensure all plant specific compliance requirements
• Provide environmental support and advice to QHSE Manager and Plant Team as required
• Maintain relations with external parties (e.g. regulator, local authorities) in areas associated with environment and accompanying them during their site visit and provision of necessary information and documentation,
• Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting and monitoring with all applicable environmental regulations and compliance requirements, including procurement of any Site Environmental Permits
• Carry out and document periodic inspections and audits to check that the Plant complies with environmental compliance requirements
• Prepare monthly environmental performance reports
• Develop and maintain the Plant Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register and track any actions raised until closure
• Review risk assessments / work procedures of Plant operations and maintenance activities to ensure environmental risks are identified and managed appropriately
• Investigate and report any environmental incidents and produce HSE Alerts / Lessons Learned
• Maintain all required records and documentation via entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic/digital form (coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing or verifying information or data),
• Follow-up daily Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) values and recording of the notes related the deviations of values, and preparation of monthly summary reports and logs,
• Ensure adequate spill kits are kept on site and organizes periodic spill drills
• Carry out / organizes environmental training for plant staff
• Manage environmental monitoring programme and ensure environmental monitoring and reporting is carried out as required
• Review records and reports concerning environmental measurement studies such as; emission measurements, underground water measurements, noise measurements and ensuring collection of environmental data and compliance checks and raise improvement actions as required
• Develop and Maintain Plant Environmental Emergency Plans for pollution protection/environmental incident trainings

Manage waste on sites including:

• Ensures compliance with waste hierarchy and waste compliance requirements on site
• Labeling, packaging of wastes prior to shipment at the temporary waste collection areas for hazardous & non-hazardous wastes
• Preparation of waste inventories and planning of waste disposal and recycle transportation,
• Archiving of records for wastes generated at the site.
• Liaise with KVI and Besix Corporate team to feedback site performance and learnings to enable continuous improvement of the KVI and Besix O&M Environmental Management System

Job Experience

• Minimum of 5 years as Environmental experience in the power generation industry or similar environment implementing and auditing the Plant PMS systems
• Must have depth knowledge and experience in establishing, implementing, maintaining and auditing in ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
• Preferably having knowledge in the Management Systems and other relevant standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001)
• Knowledge of applicable environmental laws and regulations in UAE
• Knowledge of IFC Environmental Performance Standards
