Job summary

Aldar Properties seeks an Environmental Engineer to drive the implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) across our construction portfolio in Abu Dhabi. The role ensures compliance with EAD requirements, NOC processes, and ISO 14001 standards, coordinating with PMCs, consultants, and Contractors to meet environmental targets.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement EMS and environmental policies to ensure ISO 14001 compliance.
• Monitor EMS performance across multiple Aldar projects and external partners.
• Coordinate with PMCs, consultants, and contractors on environmental permits and CEMP/EIA requirements.
• Ensure collection and reporting of environmental data (air, water, terrestrial) as per UAE laws.
• Lead initiatives to raise environmental awareness and drive sustainability across developments.

Job description

JOB PURPOSE

• Ensure proper implementation of the Environmental Management standards, system, policies, and procedures across all construction projects in compliance with Environmental Abu Dhabi (EAD) Agency requirements, NOC, and best practices ISO 14001.
• Ensure adherence of projects to the established environmental standards via proper inspection and communication across all Aldar projects.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and implement the Environmental Management System EMS and Policies e.g. Biodiversity Policy, waste management policy, Operational Eco-Efficiency and climate strategy, environmental policy, Targets, Objectives and all necessary procedures and standards to ensure effective full compliance with all sustainability and environment legal requirements and ISO 14001 (local and international standards and code of practices)
• Monitor the performance of external PMC, consultants to meet objectives and targets, PMC, Consultant and Contractor to ensure full compliance with environmental regulations/permit, Construction Environmental Management plan CEMP, Environmental Impact Assessment EIA, Objectives, Targets, policy and procedures.
• Follow up with PMC, Consultant and Contractor to ensure obtaining the Environmental NOC permits starting from EPA till project handing over.
• Ensure that the assigned parties are assessing, analyzing and collating environmental performance data (Terrestrial, water and air) and reporting to relevant parties if required.
• Ensure that PMC, Consultant and Contractor are having environmental monitoring reports and materials SDS and chemicals limits content in line with UAE Legislations.
• Enhancing the environmental culture across all developments by launching initiatives and participate with all relevant parties e.g. issuing alert, campaign etc.
• Full awareness and following up Estidama Requirements were their inference with EMS.
• Coordinate with PMC, Consultant and Contractor to ensure all aspects of pollution control, waste management plan, emergency plan, environmental management plan, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy.
• Regular inspection and audit (Internal and External with second party) on projects to ensure the effective implementation of environmental policy and procedures and ensure the PMC, Consultant and Contractor are reporting environmental performance to relevant bodies.
• Follow up waste management practices.
• Provide input in the development of Corporate Social Responsibilities CSR strategies related to environmental protection in order to meet the social, environmental, CSR and legal compliance objectives of ALDAR - (If applicable).
• Assist in environmental investigations process and ensure the concern parties are reported to environmental agency.
• Participate along with PMC and Consultant during Prequalification process for contractors and other service providers on environmental policies and necessary requirements where applicable
• Advise on environmental monitoring and compliance.
• Tracking all new legal requirements, changes and advise all involved parties for full compliance
• Participate and Follow up with authorities regarding all environmental issues for full compliance with Environment Agency Abu Dhabi EAD.
• Collecting data from all projects and finalized any related environmental reports e.g., monthly environmental performance report for continual improvements and develop monthly comprehensive dashboard report.
• Tracking all environmental documents/records belong to all projects on existing ALDAR QHSE platform to ensure all projects are fully compliance for continual improvement.

RELATED YEAR OF EXPERIENCE

Min of 5+ years of experience in Environmental Engineering with large developer or a construction firm.

SECTOR EXPERIENCE

Environmental function in a developer or construction (PMC, Consultant or contractor) and government sector.

TECHNICAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

• Strong knowledge and exposure in Abu Dhabi or GCC real estate market and local/national Environmental rules and regulations.
• Experience in contractor assessment and qualification regarding Environmental requirements.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities required for managing project environmental compliance across multiple projects;
• Fluent in both English and Arabic excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

QUALIFICATION

Degree in related to environmental or engineering in construction or Environmental Diploma.
