Job summary

Kraken in Dubai is seeking an engineering leader to head the Trading Backend team, owning the matching engine, market data gateways, and order-entry systems. This role blends leadership with hands-on coding to unblock architecture decisions and push performance improvements.

You will champion AI-assisted engineering, collaborate with product and other pods, and represent the team in cross-functional forums, delivering on aggressive deadlines with technical clarity.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineering teams with hands-on technical involvement.
• Proficiency in Rust and/or C++ in distributed, low-latency trading contexts.
• Strong understanding of order types and trading systems.
• Familiar with Aeron messaging or similar transport systems.
• Knowledge of crypto or blockchain is highly preferable.
• BS in a technical or quantitative field.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 8-10 engineers owning core trading backend services, including the matching engine, market data gateways, and order entry systems.
• Guide the team through the ongoing evolution of our trading stack, from legacy systems to their modern replacements.
• Stay technically close enough to the stack to unblock, review, and contribute to architecture discussions across matching engine, market data, and order entry work with ability to jump in and assist with coding.
• Champion performance and market data work as top priorities, while also supporting the team's broader technical scope.
• Bring AI-assisted engineering practices into the team's workflow and help engineers adopt them.
• Partner cross-functionally with product and other engineering pods to drive roadmap execution.
• Represent the team technically with peer teams and stakeholders, communicating tradeoffs and progress clearly.
