Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking an Engineering Manager – Electrical BESS to lead electrical engineering and technical design for Battery Energy Storage System projects integrated with utility-scale solar. You will guide the full project lifecycle, ensuring safety, standards compliance, and timely execution across EPC activities.

The role requires deep expertise in substation design, GIS/AIS, PV/BESS plant engineering, and SCADA systems, with strong collaboration across civil, MEP, and instrumentation

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
• 8–15 years' experience, PV/BESS plants and substation with leading contractors.
• Proven experience in utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS EPC projects.

• Lead electrical engineering and technical design for BESS projects across the full lifecycle.

Job description

The Engineering Manager – Electrical BESS will lead the electrical engineering and technical design activities for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects integrated with utility-scale and commercial/industrial solar PV projects. The role is responsible for providing technical leadership across the complete BESS project lifecycle, from concept and system architecture through detailed engineering, procurement support, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover. The position will ensure that BESS electrical designs are technically sound, safe, compliant with applicable standards and grid requirements, commercially optimized, and aligned with project schedules and EPC execution requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, assign work, establish priorities, take appropriate measures to ensure work meets specifications and is completed on schedule.
• Review of Engineering document prepared at Remote Engineering office and assigning the same to Local Adaptation consultant for Language Translation & compliance to local Standard.
• Co-ordinating with all discipline engineering and capable to resolve conflicts for engineering
• Requires balancing depth of engineering analyses against time and cost constraints and determining proper level of technical detail to release to customers & Authority approval.
• Co-ordinating with Remote Engineering Office, Local Consultants and Local Authority for Engineering approval for Construction activities.
• Promote independent actions to improve operating efficiencies and customer relations.
• Negotiate with customers, technical issues of considerable significance that may impact current and future business. Resolve conflicts between engineers and customers, to reach mutual satisfaction and agreement.
• Coordinate with Project Planning Manager and ensure deliveries are aligned to Project Schedule.
• Capable to highlight additional and variation scope with required back-up document to client and get approval.
• Field Engineering Technical support to construction team for construction & Commissioning.
• Review all non-conformance and concession reports.
• Review drawings by Design Engineers & Draughtspersons & checking of design obtaining approvals from the client.
• Conduct regular project review meetings and ensure adherence to schedule.
• Conduct internal review meetings for resource optimization, allocation and enhance productivity
• Review of designs, calculations & drawings and ensure their timely submissions after obtaining approvals from customer.
• Clarification of issues w.r.t. vendors and ensuring timely delivery of materials at project site
• Capable of Multitasking and deliver multiple things on time.
• Enable & review accurate estimation in terms of quantity for submission of Bill of Materials
• Review critical issues and procedural delays w.r.t. design aspects of equipment and extend support to Site Execution teams
• Ensure BIM implementation in the projects.
• Settle procurement issues and extend support to Supply Chain management for ensuring order finalization for Vendor Engineering
• Extend support for BOQ, review of pre-bid offers and technical submissions & provide post-tender clarifications (after clarification from vendors) to the contracts team
• Lead and manage team of Design Leads, Design Engineers and Draughtss persons
• Review Vendor evaluation (w.r.t. technical specification requirement of the client)
• Extend support to Site Execution Teams for commercial issues & processing of bills
• Ensure issuance of Manufacturing Clearance by undertaking and facilitating necessary communication with suppliers
• Communicate & clarify deliverable list from the client and obtaining resource requirement for project

Software Skills Required

• General awareness of MS Office.
• Desirable awareness of Digi Silent, PSCAD & CYMGRD and Project Planning Tools

Technical Expertise

• The candidate shall have overall expertise in both primary engineering & secondary engineering for substation projects. The Manager is required to have thorough understanding in design aspects of GIS /AIS Substations up to 500 KV. Worked experience in PV / BESS plant engineering AIS sub station will be preferable. He is required to be proficient in selection of equipment such as Power Transformers, Reactors, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Instrument Transformer. He shall be well versed in Substation Primary and Secondary Design including Earthing, Lighting, Lightning Protection, Cabling etc, interfaces between Civil, MEP & Instrumentation and Secondary engineering activities like Schemes, Wiring Diagrams, SCADA & Control System.

Qualification & Experience

• B.E. / B. Tech. in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering
• 8-15 years (Must have experience predominantly with professional PV plant , BESS plants, Substation with leading contractors)
• Proven experience in utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS EPC projects.
