Job summary

talabat is seeking an Engineering Manager based in Dubai with relocation and visa sponsorship provided. You will set technical direction, lead engineers, and ensure end-to-end delivery with a strong emphasis on quality and speed.

You will drive discovery, planning, and execution in small batches, mentor engineers, and own non-functional requirements such as availability, scalability, and monitoring. Strong communication is essential to align stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software engineering including end-to-end production systems.
• 2+ years of hands-on people management and technical leadership.
• Generalist with cross-stack exposure and fast learning ability.
• AI-native approach with integration of AI tools into workflows.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication to influence stakeholders.

What you will own

• Set the technical direction for your team's domain, in the context of talabat's wider architecture, and make the system-level calls that direction requires.
• Lead a team of engineers who ship end to end. Your engineers use AI tools such as Claude and Cursor as a normal part of their daily workflow, and you expect that as the baseline, not the exception.
• Guide discovery, planning, and execution so your team delivers value in small batches, with quality and speed both treated as normal, not traded off against each other.
• Grow your engineers through direct mentoring and coaching, and build a team that gets meaningfully better every quarter.
• Own the non-functional side of what your team ships: availability, scalability, latency, and monitoring, in line with talabat's engineering standards.
• Manage stakeholders and dependencies proactively, and write the kind of clear, direct narrative that gets the right people engaged early.

What we are looking for

• 6+ years in software engineering, including time spent building production systems end to end.
• 2+ years of hands-on people management and technical leadership, ideally having grown a team from a handful of engineers upward.
• A generalist by instinct. You have worked across more than one part of the stack, or can show you would pick it up fast, rather than holding deep expertise in a single narrow domain.
• AI-native. You do not use AI tools occasionally. They are built into how you and your team work, and you can describe specifically how.
• Experience with distributed systems (micro-services, event-driven or RESTful architectures) and with cloud platforms, ideally AWS.
• A track record of continuous delivery practice: trunk-based development, strong automated testing, and shipping small batches often.
• Strong written and verbal communication. You can write a narrative that moves stakeholders to act, not just a status update.
