Al Ghurair Investment LLC in Dubai seeks an Electrical Testing and Commissioning Engineer to support planning and execution of testing and commissioning activities for power projects and substations.
The role requires 3–7 years of relevant experience with transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, protection schemes, and IEC standards, plus strong coordination with clients and engineering teams. UAE/GCC project exposure is preferred.
Assist in planning and execution of testing and commissioning activities for power projects and substations Review approved single-line diagrams schematics equipment specifications protection philosophies and commissioning procedures Assist in preparing testing and commissioning plans method statements checklists test procedures and schedules Coordinate testing and commissioning activities with Engineering Construction QA QC Planning HSE and Project Management teams Support testing of transformers GIS AIS switchgear circuit breakers CTs PTs CVTs isolators busbars cables protection systems control panels and auxiliary equipment Carry out pre-commissioning inspections and verify equipment readiness before testing Perform and record electrical tests such as insulation resistance continuity winding resistance transformer ratio contact resistance circuit breaker timing and other applicable tests Assist in protection relay testing secondary injection testing trip circuit testing interlocking checks and functional testing Assist with testing of metering control automation SCADA RTU communication and substation automation systems Support cable testing including continuity insulation resistance phasing sheath testing and other required tests Verify control wiring secondary circuits alarms indications interlocks and protection circuits against approved drawings and schematics Ensure testing activities are carried out using calibrated and approved test equipment Review calibration certificates of testing instruments and maintain proper test equipment records Prepare and maintain test sheets test reports inspection requests checklists and commissioning records Coordinate testing and inspection activities with clients consultants utility representatives vendors and third-party agencies Ensure testing activities comply with approved ITPs method statements project specifications applicable IEC standards and client requirements Assist in identifying equipment defects wiring errors test failures and technical discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions Analyze test results and verify compliance with specified acceptance criteria Coordinate with construction teams to rectify installation defects before testing and commissioning Support Factory Acceptance Tests FAT Site Acceptance Tests SAT pre-commissioning and final commissioning activities as required Assist in energization activities and ensure all safety isolation LOTO and permit-to-work requirements are followed Support troubleshooting of electrical equipment and systems during testing and commissioning Monitor commissioning progress against the approved project schedule and report delays or technical constraints Participate in commissioning coordination meetings and provide updates on completed and pending activities Assist in preparing daily weekly and monthly testing and commissioning progress reports Coordinate with equipment manufacturers specialist vendors subcontractors and commissioning teams during testing and troubleshooting Assist in preparing and maintaining commissioning dossiers test certificates inspection records and handover documentation Track and close commissioning punch points snags and outstanding technical issues Ensure all test results and commissioning records are properly documented and traceable Support final system verification energization performance testing and project handover Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements during all testing and commissioning activities Follow electrical safety procedures LOTO requirements safe isolation practices and approved switching procedures Provide technical support to technicians and commissioning personnel as required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.Typically 3–7 years of relevant experience in electrical testing and commissioning, preferably in power, substations, transmission, distribution, or EPC projects.Good knowledge of electrical testing and commissioning procedures for power systems.Exposure to transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, circuit breakers, CTs, PTs/CVTs, isolators, busbars, cables, protection panels, and control systems.Good understanding of electrical protection, control, metering, SCADA, and substation automation systems.Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, control circuits, and equipment drawings.Knowledge of insulation resistance, continuity, contact resistance, transformer testing, circuit breaker testing, and protection relay testing.Familiarity with secondary injection testing and functional testing of protection and control systems.Knowledge of IEC standards, electrical safety procedures, LOTO, isolation, and energization processes.Experience using electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers, primary/secondary injection equipment, and relay test kits.Ability to prepare test reports, commissioning records, checklists, and technical documentation.Experience coordinating with clients, consultants, vendors, subcontractors, and utility representatives.Good understanding of QA/QC requirements, ITPs, inspection procedures, and project documentation.Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in MS Office and relevant testing/commissioning documentation tools.Ability to work on site and support commissioning activities under tight project deadlines.UAE/GCC project experience is preferred.
Experience in HV/EHV substations, power transmission and distribution, utility infrastructure, or major EPC projects.Exposure to GIS/AIS commissioning, transformer testing, protection relay testing, and substation automation.Familiarity with Omicron or equivalent testing equipment.Knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA, RTU, and communication system testing will be an advantage.Familiarity with DEWA, TAQA/TRANSCO, or other UAE utility/client testing and commissioning requirements.Experience working with major EPC contractors, engineering consultants, equipment manufacturers, and utility clients.Relevant testing and commissioning certification or professional engineering membership will be an advantage.
