Job summary

Larsen & Toubro Limited in the United Arab Emirates seeks a lead Electrical/Automation engineer to oversee TBM PLC systems, SCADA, HMI, and power distribution. You will manage operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automation controls across tunneling machines.

The role requires a BEE, strong PLC/SCADA experience, VFDs, switchgear, and a proactive approach to safety, LOTO, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BEE).
• Experience with PLC/SCADA systems in TBM or similar equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-diagnosis skills.
• Knowledge of VFDs, power distribution, motor control.

Responsibilities

• Lead operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of TBM PLC systems and automation controls.
• Ensure availability of PLC, SCADA, HMI, instrumentation, and industrial communication.
• Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Manage power distribution, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and protection systems.
• Maintain PLC programs, backups, network architecture, and documentation.
• Plan preventive and predictive maintenance to improve reliability.
• Support commissioning, testing, upgrades, and modifications of TBM electrical and automation.
• Coordinate with OEMs and maintenance teams to resolve issues and optimize performance.
• Lead and supervise PLC engineers, electricians, and technicians with compliance to safety standards.
• Analyze data, fault trends, and performance metrics for continuous improvement.
• Ensure safe operation through LOTO and regulatory standards.

Job Description

Lead the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of TBM PLC systems, automation controls, electrical equipment, VFDs, and power distribution networks across all tunnelling machines.

Ensure continuous availability and reliability of PLC, SCADA, HMI, instrumentation, and industrial communication systems for uninterrupted TBM operations.

Monitor, diagnose, and resolve electrical, automation, and control system faults, implementing corrective and preventive actions to minimize downtime.

Manage power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, protection systems, and electrical safety compliance.

Oversee configuration, optimization, and maintenance of VFDs, motor control systems, sensors, and field instrumentation to maximize operational efficiency.

Maintain PLC programs, software backups, network architecture, control logic revisions, and technical documentation.

Plan and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and machine performance.

Support commissioning, testing, upgrades, and modifications of TBM electrical and automation systems.

Coordinate with OEMs, operations, mechanical, and maintenance teams to resolve complex technical issues and optimize machine performance.

Lead, mentor, and supervise PLC engineers, electricians, and automation technicians while ensuring compliance with project HSE and quality requirements.

Analyze operational data, fault trends, and system performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and enhance tunnelling productivity.

Ensure safe operation of all automation and electrical systems through adherence to electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and regulatory standards.
