Job Summary

The Electrical & PLC Control Panel DesignEngineer is responsible for reading, interpreting, and translating Process& Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) into complete, production-readyelectrical schematics and panel layout designs. This role bridges processautomation requirements with hardware implementation, utilizing AutoCADElectrical to produce single-line diagrams, I/O wiring schematics, panelGeneral Arrangement (GA) drawings, and complete Bills of Materials (BOM).

Responsibilities

Electrical Design& CAD Drafting

• Read and interpret P&IDs to identify requiredfield instruments, control valves, drives, interlocks, and PLC/RTU/RemoteI/O signals.
• Design PLC control panels, Motor Control Centers(MCCs), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) enclosures, and pneumatic/junctionboxes.
• Prepare complete CAD drawing packages, includingGeneral Arrangement (GA) layouts, internal panel elevations, powerdistribution, PLC I/O wiring, terminal block diagrams, and loop drawingsusing AutoCAD Electrical.
• Select circuit breakers, contactors, relays, powersupplies, terminals, and PLC hardware, and prepare detailed Bills ofMaterials (BOM) with part numbers and specifications.
• Map field signals, instrumentation loops, andindustrial network topologies (PROFINET, Modbus, Ethernet/IP) betweenpanel equipment and process instruments.
• Provide technical guidance to panel assemblersand wiring technicians, verifying layout clearances, heat dissipation, and wiretagging before testing.

Hardware & Component Selection

• Select low-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers,contactors, VFDs/inverters, transformers, power supplies, terminal blocks,and safety relays.
• Specify PLC/PAC hardware platforms (e.g., Siemens,Omron), remote I/O modules, HMI terminals, and field instrumentationinterface hardware.
• Calculate power consumption, thermaldissipation, heat load, and short-circuit current ratings (SCCR) for panelsizing and cooling requirements.

Automation & PLC Integration

• Develop PLC I/O assignment lists, signal mapping, andnetwork topologies (PROFINET, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
• Collaborate with control software engineers onFunctional Design Specifications (FDS) and logic development.

Compliance,Quality & Testing

• Oversee panel fabrication with assembly techniciansand perform loop checks, continuity tests, and insulation resistancetesting.
• Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) andsupport Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) during project commissioning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical, Automation, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, including symbol libraries, cross-referencing, and project structure, as well as basic 3D CAD and MS Office.
• Knowledge of low-voltage switchgear, control panel assembly principles, PLC/HMI architectures, sensor integration, and industrial communication networks.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
