Electrical Engineer – Roads and Tunnels in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a specialized Civil Engineering opportunity covering electrical systems for highways, bridges, tunnels, utility corridors, and major transport infrastructure.
In this specialized civil engineering role, you’ll provide technical supervision of electrical systems for highways, bridges, tunnels, pump stations, utility corridors, and supporting infrastructure. The engineer will verify that electrical systems are installed in accordance with approved designs, contractual specifications, safety requirements, and the standards of relevant Dubai authorities. The position requires close coordination with civil, structural, traffic, utility, architectural, and systems teams. It also involves reviewing contractor documentation, monitoring site progress, resolving technical issues, witnessing testing and commissioning, and confirming that completed assets are ready for authority approval and operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and supervise electrical construction activities for roads, bridges, tunnels, pump stations, utility corridors, and related infrastructure.
- Inspect street lighting systems, feeder pillars, lighting control panels, cabling, earthing, and associated electrical equipment.
- Monitor the installation of traffic signal infrastructure, intelligent transportation systems, communication networks, and roadside electrical assets.
- Supervise tunnel electrical systems including lighting, emergency power, distribution boards, ventilation power supplies, fire alarm interfaces, and control systems.
- Review power distribution networks, substations, transformers, switchgear, low‑voltage systems, and connections to utility services.
- Assess contractor shop drawings, technical proposals, method statements, material submittals, and requests for information.
- Verify that electrical works comply with approved drawings, project specifications, and applicable international standards.
- Ensure alignment with RTA, DEWA, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Civil Defence, and other authority requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and document observations, deficiencies, approvals, and corrective actions.
- Identify design conflicts, installation issues, and multidisciplinary interface risks before they affect progress.
- Coordinate electrical requirements with civil, structural, drainage, traffic, utility, architectural, and mechanical teams.
- Review contractor progress and provide clear technical recommendations to the Resident Engineer and Project Director.
- Witness factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, functional testing, energization, and commissioning activities.
- Confirm that installed systems achieve required performance, safety, reliability, and operational standards.
- Review inspection requests, test reports, quality records, non‑conformance reports, and corrective action submissions.
- Assist with technical evaluations of variations, claims, proposed substitutions, and design changes.
- Support contract administration by providing technical input on scope, compliance, quantities, and contractor performance.
- Examine as‑built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, asset registers, warranties, and handover packages.
- Coordinate the closure of outstanding defects and confirm readiness for authority inspections and final acceptance.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, correspondence, progress updates, and technical review logs.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Minimum 10 years of experience delivering electrical works on road and infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated involvement in bridge, tunnel, highway, utility, or transportation infrastructure assignments.
- Previous experience in the United Arab Emirates is strongly preferred.
- Sound knowledge of street lighting, power distribution, traffic signal systems, intelligent transportation systems, and tunnel electrical services.
- Practical understanding of substations, switchgear, emergency power, earthing, control systems, and utility connections.
- Familiarity with RTA, DEWA, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Civil Defence, and local permitting procedures.
- Ability to interpret complex electrical drawings, schematics, calculations, specifications, and interface documents.
- Experience reviewing contractor submissions and supervising construction, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Strong knowledge of quality assurance, electrical safety, site inspection, and non‑conformance management.
- Ability to coordinate effectively across several engineering disciplines and construction work fronts.
- Clear communication, technical reporting, stakeholder coordination, and problem‑solving skills.
- Capability to work under demanding project schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards.
