Electrical Assistant Resident Engineer - OHL Projects

Job summary

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer - Electrical to lead and manage overhead transmission line projects from initiation to closeout in Abu Dhabi. You will supervise day-to-day electrical construction, review drawings and specs, and ensure compliance with HSE and QA/QC standards.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to define scope, allocate resources, and manage risks while maintaining project schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering; Master’s preferred.
• PE license preferred.
• 8+ years of electrical engineering experience focused on overhead transmission lines.
• Knowledge of transmission line design, construction, and maintenance with tower configurations.
• Proficiency in engineering software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and AutoCAD.
• Ability to travel to project sites and adapt to flexible hours.
• Expertise in reinforced concrete foundations, geotechnical investigations, tower spotting, and stringing logistics.
• Strong PM, leadership, communication, and HSE competencies.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Resident Engineer in supervising day-to-day electrical construction activities for OHL projects.
• Inspect OHL works including tower erection, conductor and earthwire/OPGW stringing, insulator installation, earthing.
• Ensure works align with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs, and project requirements.
• Review electrical drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and other docs.
• Conduct regular site inspections; monitor quality, progress, and HSE compliance.
• Witness and verify electrical inspections, testing, and commissioning activities as required.
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues.
• Support coordination of permits/NOCs, shutdowns, access requirements, and work permits.
• Monitor contractor progress against the programme and report delays/risks.
• Maintain and review RFIs, NCRs, inspection requests, test reports, and material records.
• Attend progress and coordination meetings; follow up on electrical actions.
• Ensure UAE/TAQA HSE, quality, and electrical safety compliance.
• Review as-built drawings, testing/commissioning records, handover docs, and close-out.
• Provide technical support to the Resident Engineer/Project Manager and resolve interface issues.
• Promote safety, quality, and professionalism throughout project execution.
