Job summary

GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced Design Technology Technician to join the Creative Arts & Technology department from August 2026, with an immediate start. The role provides technical and practical support to teaching staff and students in a safe workshop environment.

You will maintain and use workshop equipment, assist demonstrations, and help prepare materials for IB, British, and NCfE lessons while prioritizing COSHH, risk assessments, and safety training.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification or certification in Design & Technology, Engineering, Workshop Practice, or related field.
• Experience with workshop machinery and tools (wood, metal, plastics).
• Strong health and safety knowledge (COSHH, risk assessments).
• Practical, hands-on approach for manufacturing and repairs.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration with staff and students.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software, laser cutters or CNC equipment is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to health and safety policies, COSHH and risk assessments; maintain accurate records.
• Keep workshops, tools, machinery and materials safe, maintained, and ready for use.
• Set up tools, equipment and ICT resources for demonstrations and lessons.
• Assist teachers during practical sessions and support student design and making activities.
• Prepare materials and resource packs; manufacture teaching aids and fixtures as required.
• Organize and store student work and supplies; support displays and school projects.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Head of Arabic & STEM Department.
