Job summary

Tanqeeb is seeking an experienced Lead MEP Design Engineer in the UAE to drive design from concept through commissioning for 400 kV substations. You will oversee HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building services while coordinating across disciplines and with EPC contractors and utilities.

The role requires 8–12 years of relevant experience, UAE/GCC familiarity, and a bachelor’s in Mechanical/Electrical/Building Services Engineering.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of relevant engineering/design experience in power transmission or substations.
• Proven experience in high-voltage substation projects (400 kV / 220 kV).
• Experience in MEP/building services design for substations, power plants, or major facilities.
• Previous experience with EPC contractors, consultants, utilities, and international clients is preferred.
• Experience in UAE/GCC projects and familiarity with local authority requirements is desirable.
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering, or related field.
• Professional engineering certification is preferred.
• Relevant training/certification in HVAC, fire protection, BIM, or building services engineering is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead MEP design and engineering activities for 400 kV substations from design through construction and commissioning.
• Prepare and review MEP calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs, equipment schedules, and reports.
• Design and review HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and other building services systems.
• Ensure designs comply with project specs, client requirements, UAE regulations, and international standards.
• Coordinate MEP designs with civil, structural, electrical, protection & control, telecom, and other disciplines.
• Review and resolve design clashes, RFIs, and engineering issues.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams on technical matters and approvals.
• Review vendor submissions, shop drawings, material submittals, and technical proposals.
• Provide technical support to construction, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
• Monitor deliverables and ensure timely completion in line with schedules.
• Review the work of junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Identify technical risks and support value engineering, design optimization, quality, and cost-efficiency initiatives.

• Experience in UAE/GCC projects and familiarity with local authority requirements is highly desirable.
