Job summary

Elsewedy Electric in Abu Dhabi seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead 400kV substation projects, review design drawings and specifications, and coordinate primary electrical systems for GIS/AIS substations. You will work with client, consultant, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure compliant, timely deliverables.

The role requires 8–12 years of relevant HV/EHV experience, strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards, and excellent technical communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise electrical engineering activities for 400kV substations.
• Review and prepare electrical design drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Coordinate primary electrical systems for 400kV GIS/AIS substations.
• Review SLDs, protection and control schematics, and layouts.
• Review equipment specs, datasheets, and material take-offs.
• Prepare load, cable, and equipment schedules; review vendor documents.
• Coordinate with Civil, Mechanical, SCADA, telecom and other disciplines.
• Engage with client, consultant, subcontractors, and suppliers on technical matters.
• Ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE standards and project specifications.
• Provide technical support to construction, resolve RFIs and site issues.
• Conduct site inspections and assist testing/commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and monitor progress of deliverables.
• Ensure QA/QC, HSE and project engineering procedures are followed.

Job description

• Lead and supervise electrical engineering activities for 400kV substation projects.
• Review and prepare electrical design drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documents.
• Review and coordinate 400kV GIS/AIS substation primary electrical systems.
• Review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), protection and control schematics, and electrical layouts.
• Review technical requirements for power transformers, reactors, CTs, VTs/CVTs, circuit breakers, disconnectors, and surge arresters.
• Review AC/DC auxiliary systems, battery chargers, battery systems, LVAC panels, and station service systems.
• Review and coordinate earthing, lightning protection, cable routing, and electrical installation requirements.
• Review electrical equipment specifications, datasheets, material requisitions, and technical schedules.
• Prepare and review load schedules, cable schedules, equipment schedules, and material take-offs.
• Review vendor technical documents, drawings, calculations, and equipment data.
• Conduct technical evaluations of electrical equipment and participate in vendor clarification meetings.
• Coordinate electrical engineering activities with Civil, Mechanical, Protection & Control, SCADA, Telecom, and other disciplines.
• Coordinate with the client, consultant, subcontractors, and suppliers on technical matters.
• Review and respond to client/consultant comments and ensure timely closure of technical issues.
• Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, IEC/IEEE standards, and client requirements.
• Provide technical support to the construction team and resolve RFIs, technical queries, and site engineering issues.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure electrical works comply with approved drawings and specifications.
• Support testing and commissioning activities for 400kV substation equipment.
• Review testing and commissioning procedures and provide technical support during equipment testing.
• Coordinate with protection, control, SCADA, and commissioning teams during pre-commissioning and energization activities.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during installation, testing, commissioning, and energization.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate electrical engineers.
• Monitor engineering progress and ensure timely completion of assigned deliverables.
• Support the Engineering Manager and Project Manager in technical coordination and project execution.
• Ensure compliance with QA/QC, HSE, and project engineering procedures.
• Maintain proper engineering documentation, technical records, and design approvals.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8–12 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
• Strong experience in 400kV/220kV HV/EHV substation projects.
• Experience in GIS/AIS substations and EPC projects.
• Experience with major utility clients and consultants is preferred.
• UAE/GCC power transmission project experience is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of HV equipment, protection & control, SCADA, AC/DC systems, and substation automation.
• Knowledge of relevant IEC/IEEE standards and utility specifications.
• Strong technical communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under project deadlines and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
