Job summary

Client of JOH Partners seeks a Design & Engineering Manager to lead the UAE-based Design & Engineering function across the UAE, GCC and beyond. You will provide technical direction, resource planning and quality oversight for multiple projects, ensuring compliance with TG20-21, WAHR and client specifications.

The role requires senior leadership, hands-on CAD/analysis tool experience, and ability to align engineering decisions with project costs and schedules. Travel to sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or related discipline; professional certification preferred.
• Senior design and engineering leadership experience.
• Experience managing engineering teams, resources and deliverables.
• Extensive knowledge of CAD principles and product development.
• Hands-on with STAAD or similar analysis tools.
• Strong knowledge of TG20-21 and WAHR requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Willingness to travel within UAE and GCC.

Job description

Our Client a leading engineering and EPC organisation is seeking an experienced Design & Engineering Manager to join its UAE-based team. The successful candidate will lead the Design & Engineering function and provide technical direction, resource planning and quality oversight for projects across the UAE, GCC and other regions as required. This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring that engineering solutions are technically sound, compliant with applicable standards and client requirements, delivered within agreed timelines and aligned with operational and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Design & Engineering team including Senior Engineers, Design Engineers, Registered Engineers, CAD Operators and other technical personnel.
• Allocate resources and responsibilities based on project requirements, priorities and team capability.
• Oversee the preparation, review and approval of engineering designs, calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
• Provide technical guidance on engineering principles, design methodologies, calculations and practical engineering solutions.
• Review complex and high-risk engineering solutions and ensure appropriate technical direction is provided.
• Manage engineering deliverables for projects across the UAE, GCC and other regions.
• Coordinate with project operations, sales and business development teams to understand technical requirements and priorities.
• Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with agreed schedules, client requirements and quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, engineering codes, client specifications, TG20-21 Design & Operation and the Work at Height Regulations (WAHR) where applicable.
• Establish effective design review, quality assurance and document control processes.
• Identify technical risks and ensure suitable mitigation measures are implemented.
• Provide technical input during client meetings, tenders, proposals and business development activities.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, suppliers, regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, software, methodologies and technical standards.
• Support the development of engineering templates, procedures, technical resources and best practices.
• Travel to project sites or other locations when required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related discipline. Professional certification or an advanced engineering qualification is preferred.
• Proven experience in a senior design and engineering leadership role.
• Strong experience managing engineering teams, resources, project priorities and technical deliverables.
• Extensive knowledge of engineering design principles, CAD software and product development processes.
• Practical experience with STAAD, Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis or equivalent engineering analysis software.
• In-depth knowledge of TG20-21 Design & Operation requirements.
• In-depth knowledge of the Work at Height Regulations (WAHR).
• Strong understanding of applicable engineering standards, regulations and quality requirements.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to align engineering decisions with project costs, schedules and business objectives.
• Demonstrated integrity, resilience, sound judgement and commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
