Job summary

Met T&S in the United Arab Emirates is seeking a skilled Contracts Engineer to manage subcontracts and ensure contractual terms are correctly interpreted and applied on site. You will organize documentation for contract modifications and final settlements with subcontractors, coordinating with the Site Manager and CTM where present.

The role requires a university degree or diploma in a relevant discipline, at least five years of experience in construction/modernization of large industrial/EPC

Qualifications

• University Degree or Diploma in relevant discipline or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience on a similar role.
• Relevant experience in construction/modernization of industrial/Refinery sector/EPC projects large plants.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and explain contractual clauses.
• Provide certification required by contract for signature by contractual representatives.
• Check that contractual obligations are absolved by Client and Subcontractors.
• Check the expected final cost estimates against budget values.
• Check Subcontractors’ Work Progress Status sheets prior to approval by the Site Manager.
• Prepare for the Site Manager’s signature the Works Progress Status sheets for presentation to Client.
• Discuss and, where possible, reach agreement with Subcontractor on new prices, amendments and claims, preparing supporting documents.
• Prepare Field change orders and claims for dispatch to Client.
• Prepare documents for the award of local subcontracts.
• Prepare his section of the construction monthly progress report.
• May be supported by a Contract Assistant.

CTE reports to the Site Manager, or to CTM, when present.

The contact engineer is the first interface for managing subcontracts at Site, ensuring that their terms and conditions are properly interpreted and applied. Additionally, organizes the documentation necessary for contracts modifications and final settlement with the Subcontractors.

Duties and responsibilities

• Interpret and explain contractual clauses;
• Provide the certification required by contract for signature by the contractual representatives;
• Check that contractual obligations are absolved by Client and Subcontractors;
• Check the expected final cost estimates against budget values;
• Check Subcontractors’ Work Progress Status sheets prior to approval by the Site Manager;
• Prepare for the Site Manager’s signature the Works Progress Status sheets for presentation to Client;
• Together with the Supervisors, to discuss and where possible reach an agreement with the Subcontractor concerning new prices, contractual amendments and claims, preparing the supporting documents for formal issue by Home Office Subcontracts Unit (APPAL);
• Prepare, in collaboration with the Construction Manager, for the Site Manager’s signature, the Field change orders and claims to be dispatched to Client;
• Prepare the documents for the award of local subcontracts;
• Prepare his section of the construction monthly progress report;
• In performing his/her activities, he/she may be supported by a Contract Assistant.
