Job summary

A leading energy solutions company is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join their team in Dubai. This individual will be responsible for drafting, negotiating, and administering contracts throughout the project lifecycle, particularly in renewable energy. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years’ experience in the construction industry, particularly with independent power producers. Strong contract management and project management skills are essential, alongside a good understanding of FIDIC contracts and project financing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a contracts manager in the construction industry.
  • Understanding of FIDIC contracts and contracting processes.
  • Experience with projects financed by international lenders.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate, and execute project contractual documents.
  • Manage contract lifecycle and change control process.
  • Support Development team with RFIs, RFPs, and customer terms.

Contracts Manager

Location: Dubai

Reporting to: Senior Director – Delivery & Execution, Chief Technical Officer (CTO)

Overview

The Contracts Manager (CM) will be responsible for drafting, negotiating, structuring, interpreting, executing, and/or administering project contractual documents from inception during Development stage through completion in Delivery, including the defects period and the Operation and Maintenance stage.

Responsibilities
  • Review, draft and negotiate contract agreements (EPC, O&M, OE, IE, MSA, LTSA, etc.), consulting agreements, special licensing, non-disclosure agreements.
  • Drive contract lifecycle from drafting through completion of the negotiation process, and/or contract execution.
  • Manage contract change control process and related correspondence requiring legal input.
  • Support the Development team to drafts, manages, distributes, responds to, or analyses RFIs, RFPs, RFQs or customer terms & conditions as needed.
  • Support the Development team to draft and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Common Terms Agreements (CTAs).
  • Maintain a deep understanding of contract templates, contracts policy, legal risk and liability, and company position on various matters.
  • Prepare contracts/agreements for internal review and approval and ensures compliance with company policies as well as applicable laws or regulations.
  • Interpret contracts and advises project managers on contractual responsibilities.
  • Translate complex commercial/legal scenarios into simple language and action plans.
  • May mentor and train less experienced contract professionals or colleagues.
  • May assume project management responsibilities depending on the department workload and/or projects pipeline.
  • Highlight any potential problems in the projects under construction and proposing solutions to the project manager/construction team as well as the design team, if required.
  • Cooperate in the production of progress reports as required.
  • Advise and guide the project managers/site managers which work on projects.
  • Responsible for agreeing extra works and helping to resolve any disputes which may arise by continual monitoring contractors, subcontractors or/and suppliers, as required.
  • Carry out project reviews at the end of each project, with project/site managers and contracts/construction director, including performance reviews of contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, if required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Have a proven track record of minimum 10 years’ experience as a contracts manager or as a manager within the construction industry especially working with renewable energy Independent Power Producers (IPP).
  • Understand all aspects of the contracting process and contract law, particularly FIDIC contracts.
  • Experience working in projects financed by international lenders, especially IFC.
  • Will be commercially minded and adept at managing site managers and contractors/subcontractors.
  • Good understanding and technical knowledge of the construction industry, including the ability to read architectural drawings and understand the construction process.
  • The ability to construct and review accurate and realistic construction programs.
  • Proven track record successfully managing claims.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the latest Health & Safety legislation and Building Regulations.
  • Good commercial sense is imperative. Also to be experienced in decision making.
  • Good communication skills and good working attitude towards all, internal and external parties.
  • Will be well organized and capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Good math’s and IT skills are essential and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is desirable.
  • The ability to fit in well, work as a team member and have initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Will have appropriate higher education qualifications in engineering, construction management or engineering management.
  • Bachelor degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineer or similar will be a plus.
  • Master degree in Renewable Energy or similar will be a plus.
  • English speaking is a must. Knowledge of French and other languages will be a plus.
