Job Overview

Consultant Physician – Pediatric Ophthalmology

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Responsibilities

Diagnose and manage pediatric ophthalmic conditions including strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, pediatric glaucoma, refractive disorders, retinal diseases, and complex childhood eye disorders.
Perform comprehensive pediatric eye examinations, vision assessments, ocular motility evaluations, and specialized diagnostic procedures.
Conduct pediatric ophthalmic surgeries, including strabismus surgery and other age-appropriate surgical interventions where clinically required.
Develop individualized treatment and management plans based on diagnosis, age, visual development, disease severity, and evidence-based ophthalmology practice.
Collaborate with pediatricians, neurologists, geneticists, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, orthoptists, and other specialists in complex pediatric cases.
Provide consultation services for neonatal intensive care units and pediatric intensive care units when required.
Educate patients and families regarding eye diagnosis, treatment options, surgery preparation, follow-up care, preventive eye health, and long-term visual development.
Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, clinical governance activities, surgical planning discussions, and specialist referral reviews.
Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, orthoptists, technicians, and allied healthcare professionals.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, research activity, audit programs, teaching sessions, and continuing medical education.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation, diagnostic reports, operative notes, consent records, treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations.
Ensure patient care follows organizational standards, regulatory requirements, pediatric safety protocols, infection control expectations, and international best clinical practices.
Support service development in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus through clinical leadership, evidence-based care, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Qualifications

Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
Board certification, CCT, fellowship, or equivalent recognized qualification in Ophthalmology.
Fellowship or subspecialty training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
Minimum 5 years of experience practicing as a Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist.
Expertise in pediatric ophthalmic surgery and management of complex pediatric eye disorders.
Western Board Certification such as UK CCT, FRCOphth, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, Australian Fellowship, or equivalent is preferred.
Experience working in tertiary care hospitals or children’s hospitals is an advantage.
Academic, research, publication, or teaching experience is preferred.
Eligibility for medical licensure in Qatar is preferred for Qatar-based clinical service.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, documentation, and family counselling skills.
Strong leadership ability with proven multidisciplinary teamwork experience.
