Overview
Consultant Physician – Critical Care is a senior ICU leadership role that coordinates multidisciplinary teams and provides evidence‑based care for critically ill patients. The successful candidate will manage advanced intensive‑care procedures, ventilator support, sepsis and organ failure, and lead a high‑pressure ICU environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical care for critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
- Diagnose, treat and monitor complex ICU cases involving respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, trauma complications and multi‑organ dysfunction.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with intensivists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals.
- Manage ventilator support, airway emergencies, hemodynamic instability, organ support and critical care procedures.
- Conduct daily ICU rounds, review patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and ensure continuity of care.
- Lead emergency consultations and respond effectively to acute deterioration or life‑threatening clinical situations.
- Supervise junior physicians and support safe clinical decision‑making across the ICU team.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical records in line with hospital policies and healthcare regulations.
- Participate in on‑call duties, multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, and quality improvement programs.
- Stay updated with current critical care medicine practices through CME, training and professional development.
- Mentor doctors, nurses, and allied health staff to strengthen ICU service quality and clinical standards.
Ideal Profile / Qualifications
- Medical degree (MBBS, MD or equivalent) from a recognized medical institution.
- Board certification in Critical Care Medicine or an equivalent recognized specialist qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of consultant‑level experience in an Intensive Care Unit.
- Previous experience in a reputable tertiary hospital or advanced critical care setting (preferred).
- Western‑trained candidates are preferred.
- Strong expertise in ventilator management, critical care procedures, emergency response, and ICU patient stabilisation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, clinical judgement and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in English (mandatory); Arabic language skills an advantage.
