Job summary

Allocation Assist Middle East is seeking a Consultant Pediatric Anesthesiologist in Dubai to oversee perioperative anesthesia for neonates through adolescents, including elective and emergency procedures.

You will conduct detailed pre‑anesthetic assessments, tailor age‑ and weight‑based plans, manage pediatric airways, monitor critical parameters, participate in critical care and education, and collaborate with surgeons, nurses, intensivists, and families to ensure safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
• Accredited residency in Anesthesiology.
• Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology from a recognized institution.
• Board certification such as American Board, UK CCT, or equivalent.
• UAE licensing or eligibility to obtain the professional license.
• Experience with neonates and pediatric patients.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive anesthesia services for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents undergoing elective and emergency procedures.
• Conduct detailed pre-anesthetic assessments covering medical history, airway status, comorbidities, previous anesthesia exposure, and procedural risk.
• Develop individualized anesthetic plans based on age, weight, developmental stage, surgical requirements, and clinical complexity.
• Administer general anesthesia, sedation, and other appropriate anesthetic techniques within the scope of pediatric specialist practice.
• Manage complex pediatric airways and respond rapidly to difficult ventilation or intubation scenarios.
• Monitor cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and metabolic status throughout procedures.
• Apply advanced monitoring technologies where clinically indicated for high-risk pediatric cases.
• Manage perioperative fluid therapy, analgesia, temperature control, and medication dosing according to pediatric requirements.
• Provide anesthesia support for urgent and emergency pediatric procedures.
• Coordinate safe transfer and recovery following anesthesia, including post-anesthesia care unit management.
• Recognize and treat perioperative complications including airway obstruction, hemodynamic instability, allergic reactions, respiratory compromise, and other acute events.
• Participate in pediatric code blue, resuscitation, and critical care response teams.
• Work collaboratively with pediatric surgeons, intensivists, physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other multidisciplinary specialists.
• Provide perioperative support for children requiring intensive care before or after major procedures.
• Explain anesthesia plans, risks, pain management approaches, and recovery expectations clearly to parents and caregivers.
• Promote family-centered communication and reduce anxiety surrounding pediatric procedures whenever possible.
• Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, junior anesthetists, and other developing clinical staff.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Completion of accredited residency training in Anesthesiology.
• Fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology from a recognized institution.
• Board Certification such as American Board, UK CCT, Canadian FRCP, or another recognized equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric anesthesia.
• Appropriate UAE consultant licensing or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
• Strong experience providing anesthesia to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.
• Proven competence in pediatric airway management and perioperative crisis response.
• Familiarity with advanced anesthesia monitoring systems and modern pediatric anesthesia technologies.
• Experience in neonatal or pediatric intensive care environments is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of pediatric physiology, pharmacology, fluid management, and perioperative risk.
• Ability to work effectively in emergency and high-pressure surgical situations.
