Job summary

Astra ProMed in Dubai is seeking an experienced Consultant General Surgeon to provide comprehensive surgical care for adults across elective and emergency cases. The role encompasses preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative follow-up within a multidisciplinary team.

The candidate should hold MBBS/MD with a postgraduate General Surgery qualification and DHA license or eligibility, and bring strong clinical and decision-making abilities for patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• MBBS/MD from a recognized institution.
• Postgraduate qualification in General Surgery per UAE licensing requirements.
• DHA license/eligibility in relevant specialty is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage a broad range of general surgical conditions in adults.
• Perform elective and emergency general surgical procedures.
• Manage GI, hepatobiliary, colorectal, breast, hernia and other general surgical conditions.
• Perform open, laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures where qualified.
• Preoperative assessments and postoperative care/follow-up.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, oncologists and other specialists.
• Provide surgical consultations and second opinions for complex cases.
• Counsel patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, risks and outcomes.

We're Hiring | Consultant General Surgeon

Location: Dubai

Employment Type: Full-Time

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Consultant General Surgeon to join a leading healthcare facility in Dubai. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive surgical care, managing a broad range of elective and emergency general surgical conditions while ensuring safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered treatment.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage a broad range of general surgical conditions in adult patients


• Perform elective and emergency general surgical procedures within the scope of practice


• Manage gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, breast, hernia, and other general surgical conditions


• Perform appropriate open, laparoscopic, and minimally invasive surgical procedures where qualified


• Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments and provide postoperative care and follow-up


• Evaluate patients presenting with acute abdominal pain, surgical infections, trauma, and other urgent surgical conditions


• Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, diagnostic investigations, and patient needs


• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, oncologists, and other specialists


• Provide surgical consultations and second opinions for complex cases


• Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, risks, and expected outcomes


• Ensure appropriate perioperative management, patient safety, and infection-control practices


• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with UAE healthcare regulations and facility policies


• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching activities where applicable

Requirements

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) from a recognized institution


• Recognized postgraduate qualification in General Surgery, in accordance with applicable UAE licensing requirements


• Additional fellowship or advanced training in a relevant surgical subspecialty is desirable


• Eligible for or holding a valid DHA Consultant license/eligibility in the relevant specialty


• Demonstrated experience in general surgical diagnosis, treatment, and procedures


• Strong clinical, diagnostic, surgical, and decision-making skills


• Experience in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery is desirable


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
