Role Context

The Consultant Critical Care Physician will take senior clinical responsibility for adult patients requiring intensive monitoring, advanced organ support, emergency stabilization, and complex multidisciplinary treatment. The position combines bedside decision-making, invasive procedures, ventilatory support, sepsis management, emergency response, clinical leadership, and continuous reassessment of rapidly changing conditions. The consultant will help coordinate ICU resources and treatment priorities while maintaining strong standards for safety, infection prevention, documentation, and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess critically ill adult patients requiring intensive care admission or specialist ICU review.
• Diagnose complex medical, surgical, respiratory, cardiovascular, infectious, and trauma-related conditions.
• Lead stabilization of patients presenting with life-threatening physiological deterioration.
• Establish immediate priorities for airway, breathing, circulation, neurological status, and organ support.
• Manage high-acuity patients requiring continuous monitoring and advanced critical care intervention.
• Develop individualized ICU treatment plans according to diagnosis, severity, comorbidities, and response to therapy.
• Conduct structured daily reviews of critically ill patients.
• Modify treatment rapidly in response to evolving clinical findings.
• Manage acute respiratory failure and other severe pulmonary complications.
• Initiate and supervise invasive mechanical ventilation.
• Provide non-invasive ventilatory support where appropriate.
• Select ventilation modes according to respiratory physiology and patient condition.

• Monitor treatment response using clinical, laboratory, and hemodynamic parameters.

• Recognize deterioration in renal, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and hepatic function.
• Coordinate renal replacement therapy for appropriate patients.
• Manage electrolyte and acid-base disturbances common in intensive care.
• Assess nutritional requirements in collaboration with dietitians and clinical nutrition teams.
• Manage analgesia and sedation for mechanically ventilated and critically ill patients.
• Monitor for delirium and implement appropriate prevention and treatment measures.
• Support early mobilization and rehabilitation where clinically feasible.
• Provide intensive care for postoperative surgical patients.
• Manage critically ill trauma patients in collaboration with surgical and emergency teams.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS or equivalent recognized medical degree.
• Board Certification or Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Anesthesia Critical Care, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, or an equivalent recognized specialty.
• Appropriate UAE Consultant license, eligibility, or ability to obtain the required professional license.
• Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in ICU or Critical Care Medicine.
• Strong background in tertiary-care or internationally accredited hospital environments.
