Consultant – Arabic Psychiatry is a senior consultant‑level position for an experienced Arabic‑speaking psychiatrist skilled in adult mental health assessment, psychiatric diagnosis, medication management, psychotherapy support, crisis intervention, and multidisciplinary behavioural health care. The role involves providing compassionate, confidential, and evidence‑based psychiatric services for patients across inpatient and outpatient settings while communicating fluently in Arabic and English.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric disorders including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, trauma‑related symptoms, stress‑related conditions, and other mental health concerns.
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations using clinical interviews, mental state examination, risk assessment, medical history review, and appropriate diagnostic frameworks.
- Develop individualized treatment plans covering medication management, psychotherapy referral, counselling support, behavioural interventions, lifestyle guidance, and structured follow‑up.
- Manage inpatient and outpatient psychiatric cases with clear documentation, safe clinical decision‑making, and continuity of care.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while assessing treatment response, side effects, drug interactions, and patient adherence.
- Conduct psychotherapy, counselling, psychoeducation, and behavioural interventions where appropriate within the consultant's scope of practice.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care for patients with acute distress, severe mood symptoms, psychosis, self‑harm risk, behavioural escalation, or urgent mental health needs.
- Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Educate patients and families in Arabic and English regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, medication use, relapse prevention, and long‑term wellbeing strategies.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, psychiatric assessments, risk plans, treatment records, consent notes, progress reviews, and follow‑up instructions.
- Ensure adherence to patient confidentiality, ethical standards, mental health best practices, hospital policies, and relevant healthcare regulations.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research activity, teaching sessions, and continuing medical education programmes.
- Support a respectful, stigma‑aware, and patient‑centred care environment for individuals and families seeking mental health support.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
- Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Psychiatry.
- Valid consultant‑level healthcare licence or eligibility in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum 5‑7 years of post‑board consultant experience in Psychiatry within a reputed hospital, mental health centre, or multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.
- Strong expertise in adult psychiatry, mental health assessment, medication management, crisis intervention, and complex psychiatric case management.
- Experience in multicultural and multidisciplinary healthcare environments is highly valuable.
- Exposure to community psychiatry, psychotherapy programmes, behavioural health pathways, or integrated mental health services will be an advantage.
- Academic, research, audit, publication, or teaching experience in psychiatry is preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, counselling, and family education skills.
- Ability to manage complex psychiatric and behavioural health cases with empathy, confidentiality, and sound clinical judgement.
