Job summary

NMC Royal Hospital - Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi seeks a Pathologist with MD-Pathology background and HAAD licensure to lead the Laboratory Department. You will oversee diagnostics across biochemistry, hematology, histopathology and microbiology, ensuring high-quality patient care.

The role requires strong leadership, adherence to regulatory standards, and collaboration with hospital medical staff. English fluency is essential; Arabic knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved medical school with internship and three years of residency; MD-Pathology.
• At least three years of experience managing all laboratory tests across patient ages.
• Excellent command of English; Arabic desirable but not essential.
• Current licensure in country of origin and HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Job description

Studies nature, cause, and development of diseases, and structural and functional changes caused by them: Diagnoses, from body tissue, fluids, secretions, and other specimens, presence and stage of disease, utilizing laboratory procedures. Acts as consultant to other medical practitioners. Direct activities of pathology department in NMC Royal Hospital- Khalifa City.

Responsibilities

• To perform the professional duties in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by the credential committee.
• Organizing the work of the Laboratory Department.
• Training of the Laboratory technicians & phlebotomists to improve their performance and maintain professional standards of the laboratory.
• Performing and maintain the quality control procedures required as per the standards of the HAAD requirements.
• Analysis, interpretation and reporting of the clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology, hematology, immunology, histopathology, cytopathology, lab transfusion practices and other laboratory tests in accordance with professional standards and guidelines of the health regulatory authorities such as HAAD.
• Implementation of Laboratory safety protocols to provide a safe work environment for all the laboratory staff as well as for the patients.
• Liaising with health regulatory authorities such as HAAD, ministry blood transfusion services, and reference laboratories.
• Participating in in-house CME programs as well as CME programs in other hospitals for Continued Professional Development to maintain the professional standards required for the practice of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
• Key role in the hospital infection control committee, and special infection control requirements for infectious diseases. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the infection control manual for the hospital.
• Works closely with other concerned committees in developing policies and procedures to promote quality health care in NMCRH-KC.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and regarding administrative matters of a confidential nature.
• Evidences dependability in carrying out the commitments and obligations of the position.
• Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the HOD and Medical Director.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; Post graduate degree (MD-Pathology).
• At least three (3) years of experience the management of all types of laboratory test & techniques in all type & ages of patients.
• Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
• Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
• Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
