Job summary

Confidential in Erbil, Kurdistan region of Iraq, is seeking a Civil Team Lead to guide a multidisciplinary civil engineering group on complex industrial projects within the energy sector. You will supervise design, coordinate with other disciplines, and ensure safety and quality standards across the civil package.

Qualifications

• 10–12 years of design experience in thermal power plant projects.
• Minimum 5 years in a Civil Team Lead or supervisory role, leading multidisciplinary civil engineering teams.
• Proven track record of leading civil design teams on complex industrial projects.
• Experience in thermal power plant design is required; pipeline-only projects not relevant.

Responsibilities

• Supervise site survey, analyze and approve topographic surveying reports.
• Review documents issued by other engineering disciplines and provide comments.
• Inform the Civil team of scope modifications, advise on solutions, and instruct updates to Civil documents.
• Coordinate with other discipline specialists to review civil design.
• Review and approve geotechnical investigation reports.
• Review MR/subcontract packages, provide comments/approvals, and support procurement with technical details.
• Review and approve technical bid evaluations from Civil subcontractors; accept or reject technical offers.
• Provide engineering expertise and technical support for project planning.
• Review vendor design submissions and approve start of manufacturing.
• Supervise review of contractor-prepared drawing layouts and formwork/steel reinforcement documents.
• Answer technical inquiries from Civil construction site engineers.
• Lead, mentor, and supervise the Civil engineering team, including assigning tasks, managing workload, and ensuring quality of deliverables.
• Perform other tasks assigned by direct manager within scope of work.
• Demonstrate commitment to occupational safety and health procedures.

Job Title: Civil Team Lead

Purpose of the Job

Ensure that the Civil Work:

• Meets the functional requirements of the project
• Meets minimum safety and reliability requirements per best industry practices
• Meets maintainability requirements
• Maximizes use of locally available material

Ensure material selection aligns with project specifications.

Ensure the Civil System design is:

• Sufficiently detailed to ensure smooth procurement
• Sufficiently detailed to avoid confusion during construction

Ensure the Civil system design:

• Caters for all requirements of other disciplines
• Provides sufficient and correct information as required by other disciplines

Ensure building support systems (Architecture, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.) meet the above criteria and local requirements.

Main Duties

General Administrative Duties

• Prepare periodic activity/achievement reports for direct supervisor
• Specify manpower requirements per recruitment/HR planning practices
• Identify training needs of subordinates and evaluate training outcomes with HR & Admin
• Follow up on employee affairs (vacations, leaves, etc.)
• Conduct performance appraisals for subordinates and recommend actions
• Nominate a deputy to cover the role in case of absence

Job Specification

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

Experience:

• 10–12 years of design experience in thermal power plant projects

Technical Knowledge:

• In-depth knowledge of best thermal power plant design procedures and practices
• Knowledge of Civil Standards (International and Chinese)
• Knowledge of Health and Safety laws
• Ability to coordinate civil design with other engineering disciplines
• Strong understanding of procurement and construction support requirements

Software/Training Knowledge:
