Job summary

Al Ghurair Investment LLC in Dubai seeks an experienced design engineer to support power projects, substations and infrastructure. You will prepare detailed drawings and calculations, ensure design compliance with international standards and UAE regulations, and coordinate across civil, structural, electrical, MEP and BIM teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical or MEP engineering and 3–7 years’ design experience.

• Strong coordination, communication and problem-solving skills; UAE/GCC project exp preferred.

Support engineering design activities for power projects substations utility buildings and associated infrastructure Prepare develop and review engineering drawings layouts calculations specifications schedules and technical documents Review project requirements tender documents client specifications applicable codes and site conditions to establish design requirements Coordinate design activities with Civil Structural Electrical MEP BIM Planning Procurement Construction and QA QC teams Develop design solutions that are technically sound practical cost-effective and suitable for construction Prepare and update detailed design drawings layouts sections details schematics and engineering documentation Review and coordinate multidisciplinary drawings to identify design clashes interface issues and inconsistencies Assist in preparing engineering calculations design reports material specifications BOQs and technical schedules Ensure design deliverables comply with approved project specifications applicable international standards UAE regulations authority requirements and client standards Review design inputs received from clients consultants vendors and other engineering disciplines Coordinate with site teams to understand existing conditions and incorporate site requirements into design solutions Prepare and respond to RFIs technical queries design clarifications and site-related engineering issues Review shop drawings material submittals vendor drawings technical data and other contractor submissions Assist in evaluating design changes deviations and proposed alternatives and provide appropriate technical recommendations Participate in design review meetings technical coordination meetings constructability reviews and value engineering workshops Conduct design checks to ensure accuracy completeness constructability and compliance with project requirements Coordinate with BIM teams to ensure engineering information is correctly incorporated into coordinated BIM models where applicable Support preparation and updating of as-built drawings and final engineering documentation Maintain design registers drawing registers document revisions technical submissions and engineering records Ensure all design deliverables are issued in accordance with project document-control procedures and approved schedules Coordinate with procurement teams to provide technical information required for material and equipment procurement Support technical evaluation of supplier and vendor proposals drawings and documentation Assist project teams during construction by resolving design-related technical issues and providing timely engineering support Conduct site visits and inspections when required to verify design conditions and construction requirements Monitor engineering deliverables and highlight potential design-related risks or delays to senior engineers and project management Support preparation of technical specifications tender documentation BOQs and scope-of-work documents Assist in reviewing variations additional works design changes and technical inputs for commercial assessments Maintain compliance with company engineering procedures quality requirements HSE considerations and professional standards Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and designers as required Identify opportunities for design optimization value engineering constructability improvement and cost reduction Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, MEP Engineering, or a related discipline, depending on the design specialization. Typically 3–7 years of relevant engineering design experience, preferably within power, infrastructure, EPC, or large-scale construction projects. Good understanding of engineering design principles, construction methodologies, technical specifications, and applicable standards. Experience preparing and reviewing engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, BOQs, and technical documentation. Ability to interpret multidisciplinary engineering drawings and coordinate design interfaces. Experience with design software relevant to the discipline, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, STAAD . Pro, ETAP, or equivalent tools. Knowledge of BIM coordination and multidisciplinary design processes will be an advantage. Understanding of international engineering standards and UAE authority requirements. Experience coordinating with clients, consultants, vendors, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. Strong analytical, technical, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills. Good proficiency in MS Office and engineering documentation systems. Ability to manage multiple design deliverables and meet project deadlines. UAE/GCC project experience is preferred. Relevant professional engineering certification or membership will be an advantage.

Preferred Experience

Preferred ExperienceExperience in power substations, transmission and distribution projects, utility infrastructure, or major EPC projects. Exposure to HV/EHV power projects and multidisciplinary engineering design. Experience with design-and-build or EPC project environments. Familiarity with UAE utility/client requirements such as DEWA, TAQA/TRANSCO, or equivalent authorities. Experience working with major EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and utility clients.
