Job summary

gevernova in Abu Dhabi seeks a commissioning specialist to perform field service activities, including maintenance and T&S of protection and busbar systems, and to manage field service projects.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, at least 3 years in protection and CCS, HV substation experience, strong English, and willingness to travel across the region; experience with various protection relays and software is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in GEV protection, CCS (Conventional Control System), M&D (monitoring and diagnose) systems such as MiCOM, UR family protection relays, DGA900, MS3000, etc.
  • Minimum of 3 years of working experience in high voltage substation engineering and field activities.
  • Strong knowledge in protection main relays and busbar philosophy.
  • Strong knowledge in CCS, DCS and cyber security system implementation and design activities.
  • Strong knowledge in field devices, instruments and CCS systems.
  • Ability to understand and implement technical drawings (wiring diagram, P&ID, General Arrangement, etc.).
  • Strong computer skills using MS Office Software Suite
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • This role requires 100% travel across the region

Responsibilities

  • Test & commissioning (T&S) of protection & busbar protection, M&D projects and related GA projects.
  • Resource planning for the Field Service commissioning team on running projects.
  • Manage workload to ensure 90%+ billable ratio.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Support Operations to control project profitability, planning and reporting.
  • Ensure customer agreements for lead times, delivery, reliability and quality within budget.
  • Follow EHS and ensure PPE availability for T&C personnel.
  • Secure approvals of engineering engineers from key accounts and renew as needed.
  • Maintain clear customer communication via phone and email; conduct periodic reviews.
  • Implement ServiceMax during project execution.
  • Handle engineering and field service works for protection related tasks.
  • Support production documents and relay setting calculations.
  • Experience with busbar protection engineering and site works.
  • Proficiency with protection relays software and MS Office.
  • Revise drawings and respond to customer/consultant comments.
  • Provide technical clarification to suppliers/customers.
  • Coordinate with panel manufacturers.
  • Represent GE before customers and consultants in technical discussions.
  • Ensure timely design inputs from outsourcing partners.
  • Guide draftsmen and daily design activities to improve performance.
  • Tendering support.
  • Test, panel integration and internal validation at GE facility.

Job Description Summary
The commissioning specialist is responsible to perform field service activities, including all types of maintenance services (preventive and remedial), manage maintenance facilities and field services engineering. The role is based in Abu Dhabi.
Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the test & commissioning (T&S) of protection & busbar protection, M&D Projects, any other GA related projects.

  • Responsible for the resource planning of the Field Service commissioning team for running projects.

  • Manage the workload of the projects to ensure 90% and above billable ratio.

  • Liaise with other members of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Support to Operations team to Control projects effectively in terms of budgeted profitability, planning, and general reporting (internal / external).

  • Ensure that agreements with customer for documentation lead times, delivery, reliability and quality are achieved within the budgetary constraints agreed within the Unit.

  • Follow workplace EHS issues and ensure availability of suitable PPE for T&C personnel, both internal and subcontracted.

  • Manage and secure approval as well as renewal of approvals of engineering engineers from key accounts.

  • Ensure commitments to customer are met in accordance with contract with clear feedback through consistent customer interaction, e.g. communication, (phone, e-mail, etc.) and customer meetings, periodic reviews etc.

  • Implementation of ServiceMax during the project execution.

  • Have experience and able to handle engineering and field service works for [Protection Relays, Panels modification, protection logic diagram, GA/LA, Bill of Materials, Purchasing requests, Protection/SCMS/LCC Schematics, SCMS/Cyber Security Architectures, SCMS Signal list, Cable Schedule, Control Desk Drawing, IEC61850 signal mapping, etc..].

  • Support for all Production documents (Wiring Table/Label list/Cable Schedule/Interpanel wiring files), CT/VT Adequacy check, Relay setting calculations.

  • Have experience for busbar protection engineering and site works.

  • Experienced in all protection relays software, test kits, and Microsoft office.

  • Revise drawings against comments and replying to customer / Consultant comments.

  • Provide technical clarification to Suppliers/Customers.

  • Coordinating with panel manufacturer.

  • Representing GE before customer & consultants in technical discussions and workshop.

  • Providing input and securing design documents of required quality on time from design out-sourcing partners.

  • Assisting and guiding a small team of draftsmen in their daily design

  • activities to bring out collaborative performance.

  • Tendering Support

  • Able to handle the testing, panel integration, and internal validation at GEV facility.

Desired Characteristics

  • PMP certification is an advantage

  • Knowledge of schemes and application of protection relays in electrical networks including HV & EHV systems, and state-of-the-art technologies in substation automation.

  • Fluency in Arabic is an advantage

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel.

  • Ability to read / interpret tender / contract documentation, schematics, procedures, and policy guidelines.

  • Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to define problems, collect relevant data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines, work under pressure, take ownership of onsite activities.

  • Experience of managing projects for protection and control systems is a distinct advantage.

  • Willing to travel, in country and worldwide, and to work over-time.

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.

  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
