Overview
The CAD Technician - Drainage Utilities is responsible for converting engineering information, field measurements, inspection records, and approved design changes into coordinated technical drawings for drainage and utility infrastructure projects. The role supports construction supervision by ensuring that drawings remain current, technically accurate, and aligned with actual site conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed construction drawings, layouts, sections, profiles, and as‑built documentation using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
- Interpret engineering sketches, survey data, technical instructions, and design inputs accurately.
- Convert approved design information into coordinated drawings suitable for construction and authority review.
- Revise drawings to incorporate technical comments, approved changes, field instructions, and actual site conditions.
- Track existing sewerage, stormwater, irrigation, and foul drainage networks using approved as‑built records.
- Review project information to identify existing utility alignments and connection points.
- Prepare pipeline plans and profiles showing levels, slopes, coordinates, chambers, manholes, and utility interfaces.
- Develop microtunneling shaft layouts, drive alignments, entry points, receiving locations, and associated details.
- Update redline markups using verified field information provided by engineers, surveyors, and inspectors.
- Conduct site visits and surveys to collect accurate information for as‑built drawing preparation.
- Coordinate with site inspectors to verify construction progress and confirm installed dimensions and locations.
- Check drawing information against approved designs, specifications, and actual site execution.
- Review contractor shop drawings and as‑built submissions for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify inconsistencies between contractor drawings, approved designs, and verified site conditions.
- Provide clear technical observations to engineers before drawings are accepted or returned for revision.
- Prepare utility coordination drawings covering sewerage, drainage, irrigation, roads, and other services.
- Detect potential clashes between pipelines, chambers, structures, cables, and utility corridors.
- Coordinate drawing interfaces with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and utility teams.
- Support engineers during construction by preparing sketches, details, sections, and revised layouts.
- Ensure drawing deliverables comply with RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA, and project‑specific requirements.
- Apply approved CAD standards for layering, line types, symbols, scales, coordinates, annotations, and title blocks.
- Verify drawing numbers, revision codes, references, and submission status before formal issue.
- Coordinate with document control teams to support timely drawing submission, review, and approval.
- Maintain organized electronic archives for drawings, models, markups, revisions, and supporting information.
- Protect approved files from unauthorized alteration and ensure superseded drawings are clearly identified.
- Maintain drawing registers and revision histories for audit and handover purposes.
- Perform quality checks before issuing drawings to clients, contractors, or authorities.
- Support the compilation of final as‑built drawing packages and project closeout records.
- Attend in‑person Day1 onboarding at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.
Ideal Profile
- Diploma or relevant technical qualification in drafting, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of professional drafting experience.
- Strong experience preparing drawings for sewerage, drainage, irrigation, foul drainage connections, and miscellaneous civil works.
- UAE infrastructure drafting experience is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD.
- Practical understanding of utility plans, pipeline profiles, sections, details, and as‑built records.
- Experience preparing or updating microtunneling shaft and pipeline drawings.
- Ability to interpret survey data, engineering markups, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with RTA, Dubai Municipality, and DEWA drawing standards and submission requirements.
- Ability to review contractor shop drawings and as‑built submissions against actual site conditions.
- Good understanding of CAD layering, scaling, coordinate systems, annotation, and title block standards.
- Experience maintaining revision control, drawing registers, and organized digital archives.
- Competence with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and internet‑based project tools.
- Strong attention to dimensional accuracy and document consistency.
- Ability to manage several drawing packages and meet project submission deadlines.
- Effective coordination skills for working with engineers, inspectors, contractors, and document controllers.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to undertake site visits and verify construction information when required.
