Purpose of Role

The Specialist Business Teacher is responsible for promoting a love of learning across students of all abilities, taking shared responsibility for the planning, teaching and assessment of Business at IGCSE and IBDP and Humanities at Key Stage 3. The teacher will guide and encourage students to fulfil their academic potential, raise standards of attainment, and promote high standards of literacy, communication and critical thinking.

Learning and Teaching
  • Set high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
  • Establish a safe and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect.
  • Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils of all backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour expected of pupils.
Promote Good Progress and Outcomes by Pupils
  • Be accountable for pupils’ attainment, progress and outcomes.
  • Plan teaching based on pupils’ capabilities and prior knowledge.
  • Guide pupils to reflect on progress and emerging needs.
  • Use knowledge of how pupils learn to improve teaching.
  • Encourage responsible and conscientious attitudes to work and study.
Demonstrate Subject and Curriculum Knowledge
  • Maintain secure knowledge of relevant subjects and curriculum areas.
  • Foster and sustain pupils’ interest and address misunderstandings.
  • Promote the value of scholarship and high standards of literacy and the use of standard English.
Plan and Teach Well‑Structured Lessons
  • Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time.
  • Promote a love of learning and intellectual curiosity.
  • Set homework and out‑of‑class activities to consolidate learning.
  • Reflect systematically on lesson effectiveness.
  • Contribute to curriculum design, schemes of work and department resources.
Adapt Teaching to Pupils’ Strengths and Needs
  • Differentiate appropriately using effective approaches.
  • Understand factors inhibiting learning and methods to overcome them.
  • Adapt teaching to support physical, social and intellectual development.
  • Address needs of all pupils including those with SEN, high ability, EAL, disabilities.
Make Accurate and Productive Use of Assessment
  • Understand internal and external assessment requirements.
  • Use formative and summative assessment to secure progress.
  • Analyse data to set targets and plan lessons.
  • Give regular feedback and encourage pupils to respond.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Apply school behavior policy with consistent strategies.
Fulfill Wider Professional Responsibilities
  • Contribute positively to school life and ethos, including extra‑curricular activities.

  • Attend Parents’ Evenings as required to provide accurate information.
  • Provide written reports twice yearly or as required by the SLT.
Staff Development, ECA & Cover
  • Attend and fully participate in staff development, meetings and briefings.
  • Provide cover for absent colleagues when necessary.
  • Contribute to the extracurricular activity program as directed.

  • Treat pupils with dignity, building respectful relationships.
  • Safeguard pupils’ well‑being.

  • Maintain professionalism inside and outside school.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Educational Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from an accredited institution.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school.
  • Child Care and Protection training.
Minimum Years of Experience
  • Three years of full‑time teaching experience in an accredited institution.
Knowledge
  • In‑depth knowledge of the School curriculum and assessment methods.
  • Up‑to‑date curriculum developments.
