Job summary

Job description

Main Duties
  • Deliver lessons that inspire students to succeed and achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Teamwork and collaboration: work cooperatively with fellow teachers, curriculum support staff and other professionals.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels and develop positive relationships with the entire school community.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet curriculum requirements.
  • Liaise with colleagues and work flexibly to support student development.
  • Coordinate with parents to secure the happiness and best academic outcomes for all children.
Specific Duties
Teaching and learning
  • Clear understanding of the curriculum.
  • Organise classroom provision and learning resources, create displays to encourage a positive and engaging environment.
  • Plan, prepare and present sessions that cater to the entire ability range.
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic imaginative teaching.
  • Observe and assess children in line with school assessments.
  • Reflect on classroom provision, sessions taught and progress made, adjust environment, planning and curriculum accordingly.
  • Meet with other professionals (speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists) if required.
  • Embed the Yas American Academy Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes throughout the curriculum.
Assessment and data
  • Take responsibility for the progress of a class.
  • Meet requirements for assessing and recording student development using Target Tracker.
  • Use assessment data to inform planning, provision and intervention.
  • Provide feedback to parents and carers on student progress at Parent‑Teacher conferences and other meetings.
Behaviour management and duties
  • Follow the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Manage classes effectively using approaches appropriate to students’ needs.
  • Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority and act decisively when necessary within the policy.
  • Act as a positive role model and demonstrate positive attitudes, values and behaviour expected of pupils.
  • Have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self‑control and independence of all learners.
  • Carry out duties as directed and within the school’s policy.
Wider professional responsibilities
  • Work as part of a curriculum action group supporting planning, assessment, resources and special events.
  • Organise and participate in school events, outings and activities that may take place on weekends or evenings.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student achievements and well‑being using systems such as CPOMS.
  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
  • Run a weekly ECA each term.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject and B.Ed. or PGCE Education.
  • Experience in an international school is an advantage.
Minimum Experience
  • Experience teaching AP/IB or A‑Levels standard.
Personal / Leadership Qualities
  • Previous experience working with students whose English is not their first language.
  • Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
  • A high level of professionalism and consideration of the well‑being of children.
  • Recent and consistent involvement in extra‑curricular activities.
