Aldar Education’s Cranleigh Abu Dhabi campus seeks an experienced AV Technician to support daily AV operations and complex performances in the performing arts program.

You will design, program and operate sound, lighting and projection systems for assemblies, concerts and theatre productions, coordinating with music, drama and operations teams to ensure reliable technical delivery.

Qualifications

The AV Technician provides the technical foundation behind Cranleigh Abu Dhabi's performing arts, academic and community events. The role combines day-to-day audio-visual support with hands-on production responsibility for complex performances requiring professional sound, lighting, projection, recording and stage technology. A major part of the position involves translating creative requirements into dependable technical delivery. Working with Performing Arts, Music, Drama, Operations and other school teams, the technician will prepare production plans, configure equipment, manage technical rehearsals and operate systems during live performances. The position also protects the school's investment in AV infrastructure through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment control and accurate technical documentation. Reliable systems and safe operating practices are essential to ensuring that teaching spaces, performance venues and major events remain operational throughout the academic year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain professional audio-visual, sound, lighting, projection and recording equipment.
  • Troubleshoot AV system faults and restore equipment to operational condition efficiently.

  • Take technical responsibility for theatrical lighting, sound and production systems across performance spaces.
  • Design and program lighting for theatre productions, concerts, dance performances and musical theatre.
  • Configure and operate live sound systems for performances involving vocalists, musicians and ensembles.
  • Manage microphones, signal routing, mixing consoles, speakers and associated audio equipment.
  • Support productions involving live orchestras, multiple performers and complex technical requirements.
  • Develop production plans with the Director of Performing Arts, Music and Drama teams.
  • Prepare technical requirements for rehearsals and live performances.
  • Manage technical rehearsals from sound, lighting and stage production perspectives.
  • Ensure theatre, auditorium and performing arts equipment remains ready for use throughout the school year.
  • Provide technical support during performance runs and respond quickly to live production issues.
  • Support multimedia integration for performances and presentations.
  • Configure recording equipment for concerts, productions and other school activities.
  • Support livestreaming and broadcasting requirements for selected events.
  • Provide AV services for parent events, open days, graduations and conferences.
  • Assist with sporting, community and wider school events requiring technical production.
  • Work with marketing and communications teams on audio, video and recording requirements.
  • Coordinate effectively with external technical providers and performers when required.
  • Conduct routine inspections of electrical and technical production equipment.
  • Identify defects and arrange appropriate repair or escalation.
  • Apply safe working practices in theatres, auditoriums, performance areas and event venues.
  • Ensure AV and production equipment is operated in accordance with relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain technical documentation, operating procedures and equipment guides.
  • Support Operations and Performing Arts colleagues with production-related requirements.
  • Participate in evening or out-of-hours school events when operational needs require technical coverage.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a diploma, degree or professional qualification in Audio Visual Technology, Sound Engineering, Technical Theatre, Event Production, Media Technology or a closely related discipline. Substantial relevant industry experience may also be considered. Applicants should bring 3-5 years of experience in audio-visual operations, technical theatre, live production, performing arts support or event technology. Hands-on competence with professional sound and theatrical lighting systems is essential. Candidates should understand live sound mixing, microphones, signal flow and audio system configuration and be comfortable programming and operating stage lighting equipment. Experience supporting concerts, theatrical performances, musical productions and events involving multiple performers or live musicians is particularly relevant. The ability to diagnose AV faults and maintain technical equipment is also required. Previous employment within a school, theatre, performing arts venue or professional live events environment will be advantageous.
