Job summary

Keka Inc. is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to support the Payments Product Team in building secure payment services and APIs. You will work with internal and vendor teams to understand payment workflows, perform testing, and contribute to the stability of transaction processing systems.

You will gain exposure to payment gateways, ISO 8583 basics, cryptography concepts, and secure coding practices in a fast-paced fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
• 2–4 years of software development experience.
• Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in payment systems, fintech platforms, or financial services.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, maintaining, and supporting secure payment services and transaction processing applications.
• Support payment channel integrations including REST APIs, payment gateway integrations, and basic ISO 8583 transaction flow understanding.
• Work closely with senior engineers and vendor teams to understand payment workflows, transaction routing, reconciliation processes, and operational procedures.
• Assist in implementing secure transaction processing practices including encryption concepts, tokenization, authentication mechanisms, and basic HSM/key management understanding.
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of backend services and APIs supporting payment applications, POS/Terminal Management, vPOS, and Pay-by-Link solutions.
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of transaction failures, API integration issues, and payment-related operational incidents.
• Participate in system improvement activities related to application stability, performance optimization, and payment processing efficiency.
• Assist in implementing secure coding practices and ensure compliance with PCI DSS guidelines and enterprise security standards.

The Associate Software Engineer supports the Payments Product Team in software development, API integration, testing, troubleshooting, and technical learning activities. The role is designed for engineers interested in building expertise within fintech and payment systems while working closely with experienced internal and vendor teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

DEVELOPMENT OF THE AREA:

• Assist in developing, maintaining, and supporting secure payment services and transaction processing applications.
• Support payment channel integrations including REST APIs, payment gateway integrations, and basic ISO 8583 transaction flow understanding.

CONTROL OF TASKS:

• Maintain proper technical documentation for APIs, workflows, deployment procedures, and operational support.
• Participate in code reviews, testing cycles, deployment validation, and production monitoring activities.
• Ensure assigned deliverables comply with security, coding, and operational standards.
• Support monitoring and incident resolution activities for production payment systems.
• Coordinate with PMO, QA, Security, Infrastructure, and UAT teams during deployment, testing, and release cycles

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field
• 2 - 4 years of software development experience
• Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in payment systems, fintech platforms, or financial services

Core Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience in Node.js and Java (JDK 8+) with microservices architecture
• Good understanding of RESTful API design, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures

Databases & Messaging:

• Good working knowledge of SQL databases (MSSQL, PostgreSQL) and basic queries, CRUD operations
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (Redis, Firebase)
• Familiarity with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) for transaction processing

Infrastructure & DevOps:

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized deployments
• Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic understanding of ISO 8583 message processing and payment switch integration
• Basic knowledge of POS/Terminal Management Systems and transaction lifecycle management
• Basic knowledge of tokenization, encryption standards, and secure payment flows
• Basic understanding of PCI DSS requirements and compliance-driven development
