Job summary

McDermott International, Ltd. is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to support routine electrical design tasks under close supervision. You will apply foundational engineering knowledge to perform basic design calculations, prepare sketches, and assist with one-line diagrams and databasing of electrical items.

The role focuses on learning standards, design techniques, and analysis methods while collaborating with the Lead Engineer and other discipline engineers to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering required or equivalent.
  • 0-3 years experience in oil and gas.
  • Learn and apply relevant standards, codes and guidelines.
  • Learn design techniques and analysis methods.
  • Preferably registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or member of a professional engineering society.

Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with company procedures, work instructions, guidelines, and standards.
  • Perform detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic tasks.
  • Receive guidance from senior engineers and perform routine assignments.
  • Prepare clear, accurate detailed design calculations and analyses.
  • Organize own work to meet deadlines set by others.
  • Communicate information, ask questions, and check for understanding.
  • Understand project scope, specs, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements.
  • Perform calculations for power distribution systems.
  • Produce consumer lists from equipment data.
  • Make sizing calculations of electrical equipment and components.
  • Populate electrical items in databases like SPEL.
  • Create electrical one-line diagrams.
  • Prepare sketches to guide Designers.
  • requisition and specify bulk materials.
  • Check drawings.
  • Keep Lead Engineer informed of progress and concerns.
  • Develop awareness of costs related to own work.
  • Understand MDR’s business and customers.

Job Overview

The Associate Electrical Engineer is responsible for utilizing existing Electrical procedures to solve routine or standard problems. They receive instruction, guidance, and direction from others within the team and will leverage their conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to Electrical and Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Be familiar with the Company procedures, work instructions, guidelines, and standards for work to be performed and asked guidance where required
  • Perform detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic engineering tasks
  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete routine assignments under the close supervision and mentoring of an experienced engineer
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures
  • Organize own work to meet deadlines set by others
  • Communicate information, asking questions, and checking for understanding
  • Gain an understanding of the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements
  • Perform calculations for the power distribution system
  • Produce consumer lists from available equipment data
  • Make sizing calculations of electrical equipment and components
  • Populate electrical items in electrical databases like SPEL
  • Make electrical one-line diagrams
  • Prepare sketches of detailed design to guide Designers
  • Requisition and specify simple bulk materials, including TBE and SDR
  • Check drawings
  • Keep the Lead Engineer apprised of all activities, progress, and concerns
  • Develop an awareness of costs related to own work
  • Develop a basic understanding of MDR's business and the customers it serves
  • Develop basic knowledge of MDR's business units and interactions, including engineering and fabrication
  • Develop advanced skills in the use of standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Reports to
  • Project: Lead Engineer
  • Functional: Supervising Department Manager
  • Liaise With: Engineers, Design Supervisors and Designers of their own discipline
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering
  • 0-3 years experience in oil and gas
  • Learning the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
  • Learning design techniques and analysis methods
  • Preferably a Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or a member of a professional engineering society

Successful degree holding candidates will be required to provide a degree equivalency certificate issues by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR). Candidates who do not already have this available are recommended to commence the process to avoid delays in the offer and onboarding process.
