Job summary

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager – Design & Technology (R&D) with strong expertise in Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), custom automated machinery, and Engineer-to-Order (ETO) machine development.

The ideal candidate should be capable of taking a machine from concept and engineering calculations through 3D modelling, detailed drawings, BOM preparation, fabrication, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of Special Purpose Machines and customized automated machinery.
• Develop complete machines from concept through design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning.
• Convert unique customer requirements into practical mechanical machine designs.
• Develop machines from a blank sheet for Engineer-to-Order (ETO) applications.
• Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks/3D CAD.
• Perform mechanical design calculations and select appropriate components.
• Design and integrate:

Candidate Requirements

• 7–12+ years of experience in Special Purpose Machine (SPM) or custom machine design.
• Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks and 3D CAD.
• Proven ability to design complete machines from concept to commissioning.
• Strong mechanical mechanism and machine design expertise.
• Experience with Engineer-to-Order (ETO) and highly customised machinery.
• Proven experience developing machines from a blank sheet based on customer requirements.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical components and machine systems.
• Practical understanding of motors, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, couplings, pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, and linear motion.
• Experience with conveyors, jigs, fixtures, welded structures, machined components, and sheet-metal fabrication.
• Ability to design equipment suitable for in-house fabrication.
• Experience coordinating with fabrication, machining, assembly, electrical, and PLC teams.
• Hands-on experience with prototype testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Good understanding of DFM/DFA, cost optimisation, and machine maintenance.
• Strong experience preparing BOMs, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation.
