Job summary

OpenAI’s Applied AI Engineering team seeks an Applied AI Engineer in Abu Dhabi to design, build, and deploy AI systems that deliver measurable business outcomes for enterprise customers. You will write code, build evaluation systems, resolve complex integrations, and guide decisions on model behavior, latency, cost, safety, and governance, with a focus on production readiness and customer impact.

This role is based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, with a hybrid model (3 days in office) and relocation

Qualifications

• Proven experience building AI/ML systems for production environments.
• Strong programming and debugging skills in Python.

Responsibilities

• Partner with enterprise customers to translate opportunities into architectures, plans, and measurable success criteria.
• Design, build, and deploy AI systems that solve real business problems and deliver measurable outcomes.
• Hands-on coding to develop prototypes, evaluation harnesses, reference implementations, integrations, and production accelerators.
• Make decisions across models, agents, retrieval, tools, data, reliability, observability, latency, cost, safety, security, and governance.
• Diagnose complex challenges, reproduce failures, test hypotheses, and drive blockers to resolution.
• Help customers move from prototypes to reliable production systems with sustained adoption and impact.
• Collaborate with OpenAI product, research, engineering, security, and GTM teams to capture deployment learnings as feedback.
• Create reusable architectures, tooling, and playbooks to accelerate future enterprise deployments.
